Net Zero<\/a> could become the \u201cnext\u00a0 Brexit<\/a>\u201d and be the issue which wins Reform UK<\/a> the next election, Nigel Farage<\/a> has declared. The party leader laid out a vision for how the centre-Right can seize back the environment as a campaigning issue while ditching the Government\u2019s drive to achieve net zero emissions.<\/p>\n

Mr Farage revealed he had voted for the Green Party in the 1989 European election and said he cared “greatly” about habitats and the natural environment. But he said he was watching Britain \u201cdeindustrialising\u201d as energy prices force up the costs on families and businesses.<\/p>\n

He said opposing net zero could be the \u201cprimary issue\u201d which wins his party the next election.<\/p>\n

Mr Farage fired a shot at former Conservative leader Boris Johnson<\/a>, saying he was perhaps the \u201cworst of the lot\u201d when it came to pursuing net zero with his ambition for the UK to become the \u201cSaudi Arabia\u201d of wind.<\/p>\n

He said politicians and the media were gripped in a \u201cmania\u201d on net zero but predicted \u2013 as with Brexit<\/a> \u2013 voters in the UK may set the country on a very different path.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe scales are falling from people\u2019s eyes,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Mr Farage accused the Government of \u201cwilfully destroying\u201d opportunities and industry around the North Sea. He said Britain could be a self-sufficient \u201cenergy exporter\u201d.<\/p>\n

Warning against erecting solar panels on land which could be used for agriculture, he said: \u201cWhen you\u2019re building solar farms on grade one land in Lincolnshire what in God\u2019s name are you doing?\u201d<\/p>\n

He described fields covered in solar farms as “biodiversity deserts”.<\/p>\n

He strongly supports exploiting Britain\u2019s shale gas reserves, saying: \u201cI do think for now fracking is absolutely vital.\u201d<\/p>\n

When asked if a Reform Government would scrap the ban on fracking, he said: \u201cAbso-blooming-lutely.\u201d<\/p>\n

in the long-term, he argues nuclear is “the answer” to Britain’s energy needs.<\/p>\n

Mr Farage suggested the centre-Right could reclaim \u201cthe argument about why nature matters without the CO2 obsession\u201d.<\/p>\n
