{"id":19492,"date":"2025-04-14T15:15:10","date_gmt":"2025-04-14T15:15:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/19492\/"},"modified":"2025-04-14T15:15:10","modified_gmt":"2025-04-14T15:15:10","slug":"harry-potter-tv-series-confirms-6-extraordinary-stars-joining-reboot-cast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/19492\/","title":{"rendered":"Harry Potter TV series confirms 6 &#8216;extraordinary&#8217; stars joining reboot cast"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t<img fetchpriority=\"high\" width=\"646\" height=\"430\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/SEI_247538206-90c3.jpg\" class=\"article-image wp-image-22906016\" alt=\"Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson as Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger\" decoding=\"sync\"\/><br \/>\n\t\tAfter months of speculation we\u2019ve had official news on the new Harry Potter cast (Picture: Moviepix)<\/p>\n<p>After months of speculation and rumour <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/hbo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HBO<\/a> has officially announced several stars set to join the <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/harry-potter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Harry Potter<\/a> reboot cast.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Six new cast members<\/strong> have been announced in total, including several who were already heavily rumoured to be joining the TV series.<\/p>\n<p><a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/02\/26\/john-lithgow-confirms-total-surprise-playing-albus-dumbledore-harry-potter-tv-reboot-22626821\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">John Lithgow<\/a> has now been <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/02\/26\/john-lithgow-confirms-total-surprise-playing-albus-dumbledore-harry-potter-tv-reboot-22626821\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">confirmed as Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore<\/a>, after the American actor revealed the news himself in an interview.<\/p>\n<p>The 79-year-old said that the role came as a \u2018total surprise\u2019 to him, adding that it was not an easy decision to accept the part \u2018because it\u2019s going to define me for the last chapter of my life\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>I May Destroy You star <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2021\/07\/19\/i-may-destroy-yous-paapa-essiedu-better-to-quit-than-have-series-2-14954293\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Paapa Essiedu<\/a>, 34, was heavily rumoured to be playing Potions master Severus Snape, a rumour that has now turned out to be true.<\/p>\n<p><a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/03\/26\/harry-potter-fans-reveal-major-theory-hagrid-reboot-casting-revealed-22794878\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nick Frost<\/a>, 53, has also been confirmed to be <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/03\/26\/harry-potter-fans-reveal-major-theory-hagrid-reboot-casting-revealed-22794878\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">starring as Rubeus Hagrid<\/a> after the actor was speculated to have been cast as the beloved Hogwarts groundskeeper.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"969\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/SEI_247536355-e463.jpg\" class=\"article-image wp-image-22905812\" alt=\"John Lithgow\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\"\/><br \/>\n\t\tJohn Lithgow will be playing Professor Dumbledore (Picture: Jessica Howes)<\/p>\n<p>\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"517\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/SEI_247536066-cd5c.jpg\" class=\"article-image wp-image-22905804\" alt=\"Paapa Essiedu\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\"\/><br \/>\n\t\tPaapa Essiedu will be playing stern potions master Severus Snape (Picture: Ruth Crafer)<\/p>\n<p>In addition to Lithgow, Essiedu and Frost, another new cast member joining as a series regular is Tumbleweeds actress Janet McTeer, 63, who\u2019ll be stepping into the shoes of Head of Gryffindor House, Minerva McGonagall.<\/p>\n<p>There are also two actors who are joining the TV series as guest and recurring cast members, the first of which is Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, the Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher in Harry Potter and the Philosopher\u2019s Stone who turns out to be hiding a dark secret.<\/p>\n<p>The actor has been highly praised for his theatre performances, with <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/02\/luke-thallon-hamlet-the-royal-shakespeare-company-1236294613\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Deadline <\/a>writing of his stage work: \u2018He\u2019s unknown outside of the theatre world. (Photo by Mike Marsland\/Contour by Getty Images)\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\"\/><br \/>\n\t\tFinally, Paul Whitehouse will be sweeping Hogwarts as the grumpy caretaker, Argus Filtch (Picture: Mike Marsland)<\/p>\n<p><a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/02\/13\/john-lithgows-biggest-dumbledore-competition-nears-deal-harry-potter-reboot-22556017\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mark Strong was supposedly up for the role of Dumbledore<\/a> while Sharon Horgan and Brett Goldstein were considered for Minerva McGonagall and Hagrid.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, there\u2019s no news about who\u2019s playing He Who Shall not be Named, aka the dark Lord Voldemort <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2024\/12\/04\/will-play-lord-voldemort-harry-potter-tv-series-7-top-contenders-22122537\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">although fans are convinced Oscar-winning actor Cillian Murphy<\/a> is set to wield the wand.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As for the golden trio \u2013 Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger \u2013 there hasn\u2019t been any official news. However, 32,000 children are reported by the BBC to have auditioned for the role.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The news that Harry\u2019s adventures are being adapted for television has been divisive. No one is taking away the movies. This is supposed to be faithful to the books with Rowling\u2019s backing. Very excited!\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>@KinoeCole, however, said he was \u2018beyond disappointed\u2019 with the news, before adding \u2018no fans wanted Harry to be redone. Give us origins of Hogwarts, The Marauders, Tom Riddle, [Or the] Order of The Phoenix.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A number of fans have also said they <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2023\/04\/10\/harry-potter-fans-plan-tv-series-boycott-due-to-jk-rowlings-views-18586903\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">plan to boycott the TV series<\/a> due to Rowling\u2019s comments about the trans community. Rowling, 59, has been criticised by some fans for expressing views that have been described as transphobic by the LGBTQ+ community and civil rights groups.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Following the official announcement of the TV show the Wizarding News \u2013 a group dedicated to reporting the latest Harry Potter news \u2013 wrote on X that \u2018any new Harry Potter TV show made with or by JK Rowling will be met with loud and constant protest\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>In a previous tweet, the group called for a boycott of the franchise for as long as Rowling was working with Warner Bros. Discovery.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\tWill you be watching the Harry Potter TV show?<\/p>\n<p><a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2023\/04\/22\/jk-rowlings-scathing-response-to-planned-boycott-of-harry-potter-tv-series-18657724\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Responding to the boycott plans<\/a>, Rowling penned a scathing reply, writing on X: \u2018Dreadful news, which I feel duty bound to share. Activists in my mentions are trying to organise yet another boycott of my work, this time of the Harry Potter TV show. As forewarned is forearmed, I\u2019ve taken the precaution of laying in a large stock of champagne.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Several members of the Harry Potter movie cast have been critical of Rowling\u2019s views on trans people including <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2024\/05\/01\/daniel-radcliffe-admits-jk-rowling-makes-really-sad-now-20751653\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Daniel Radcliffe<\/a> and <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2024\/04\/11\/jk-rowling-wont-forgive-daniel-radcliffe-emma-watson-20626764\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Emma Watson<\/a>, while others like <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2022\/04\/19\/miriam-margolyes-defends-generous-jk-rowling-over-trans-row-16490802\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Miriam Margolyes<\/a> and <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2022\/10\/25\/ralph-fiennes-defends-jk-rowling-from-disgusting-abuse-17632201\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ralph Fiennes<\/a> have defended her.<\/p>\n<p>Regardless of Rowling\u2019s politics, it\u2019s clear HBO believes it\u2019s onto a winner with the Harry Potter TV show. <\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s been reported that the series will span the course of a decade with each season adapting one book in the franchise.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Harry Potter TV show will
