{"id":195283,"date":"2025-06-18T20:25:15","date_gmt":"2025-06-18T20:25:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/195283\/"},"modified":"2025-06-18T20:25:15","modified_gmt":"2025-06-18T20:25:15","slug":"campaigner-walks-out-of-holyrood-in-disgust-as-petition-rebuffed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/195283\/","title":{"rendered":"Campaigner walks out of Holyrood in disgust as petition rebuffed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A campaigner fighting to get more help for home-owners\u00a0hit by the RAAC scandal\u00a0walked out of the Scottish Parliament in disgust this afternoon [Wednesday] after MSPs rejected their petition.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The National UK RAAC campaign had asked for the Scottish Housing Regulator to expand powers to include owners of former council homes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0But a meeting of the Citizen Participation and Public Petitions Committee \u201crefused to budge\u201d according to veteran campaigner Livingston RAAC campaigner Kerry Macintosh.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She told the Local Democracy Reporting Service that when the call to change rules was declined:\u00a0\u201cI was so angry when I came out of the committee room. It was very hard not to say anything. I stood up and said \u2018shocking\u2019 and walked out.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Speaking after the meeting she told the LDRS: \u201cThe people in parliament, the SNP government. They don\u2019t give a toss. They are not listening to what people are going through. They are overlooking things that are affecting people\u2019s lives.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is as bad as the Post Office scandal.\u00a0 I\u2019m just so annoyed at watching how homeowners are getting treated.\u00a0 The people in parliament are not living with what \u00a0 the people with RAAC in their homes are living with- the stress, the fear and the worry.
