Jake Paul’s meteoric rise in boxing has seen him become one of the highest-paid athletes in the world.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The former Disney star first tried his hand at the sport in 2018, beating Deji Olatunji in a white collar bout<\/a>. <\/p>\n

He turned over as a professional two years later and hasn’t looked back since.<\/p>\n

Rather than going down the traditional route of learning his trade against journeymen and fellow prospects, Paul has targeted fights with superstars from the worlds of boxing, MMA<\/a> and even the NBA<\/a>.<\/p>\n

These blockbuster spectacles have come with far bigger paydays attached to them, allowing the 12-fight (11-1) novice to establish himself as one of the most commercially successful fighters in the sport today.<\/p>\n

Last November, Paul reportedly pocketed a staggering $40million for his controversial crossover clash with Mike Tyson<\/a> – a fight watched by 60 million households on Netflix.<\/p>\n

The fee won’t have been met with nearly as much amazement by ‘The Problem Child’ though, as he claims he has been averaging that figure annually for the past four years in boxing.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019ve roughly been averaging around $40million a year for the past four years in boxing,” Paul told the Iced Coffee Hour podcast.<\/p>\n

“The first year, year and a half of boxing, I didn\u2019t make much.<\/p>\n

“I was definitely at a loss in my first year in boxing.”<\/p>\n

Paul credits his astronomical earnings to his bad guy persona.<\/p>\n

“I think everything worked out perfectly,” he added.<\/p>\n

“If I didn’t have my YouTube persona and following, with everyone doubting I could become a boxer and everyone hating me, I don’t think I would be making as much.<\/p>\n

“In boxing, the villain makes more, and that is why I purposefully make people hate me and play that role and be the bad guy.<\/p>\n

“You want to pay for the pay-per-view or tune into Netflix more to see the guy get knocked out that you hate.<\/p>\n

“It is a lot of money, and I am definitely blessed and grateful, but it feels like every bit of it was earned.<\/p>\n

“I worked my a*** off every day for 12 years straight, and then finally everything clicks overnight, and then eight, nine years into it I feel like I can make what I finally deserve.<\/p>\n

“I feel like every penny I have made, I deserve more because of the amount of work I have put into it.<\/p>\n

“I think my biggest paydays in the sport of boxing are still to come for sure.”<\/p>\n

Paul’s payday for his upcoming clash with former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr is yet to be disclosed, although it will almost certainly be seven figures.<\/p>\n
