Hundreds of people in Greater Manchester are calling for ‘urgent’ action on e-scooters.<\/p>\n
More than 400 people in the region have signed a petition to Parliament<\/a> calling for more regulation, including a ban on passengers, helmets and strict punishments for those breaching the law using the vehicles.<\/p>\n While more than 600 people across the UK have signed the petition so far, a majority are in Manchester – with 390 in the Wythenshawe and Sale<\/a> East alone.<\/p>\n The petition, launched on Wednesday (June 18), states: “We are calling on the government to urgently legislate for: a ban on e-scooters for under-18s; mandatory e-scooter licencing, insurance, helmets and safety equipment; a ban on carrying passengers; and stricter punishments for those breaching or allowing breaches of laws related to e-scooters.<\/p>\n “We think there is insufficient regulation around the sale and use of e-scooters.
