{"id":195575,"date":"2025-06-18T22:55:11","date_gmt":"2025-06-18T22:55:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/195575\/"},"modified":"2025-06-18T22:55:11","modified_gmt":"2025-06-18T22:55:11","slug":"blumhouse-officially-buys-rights-to-saw-franchise-with-wan-whannell-rejoining-the-team","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/195575\/","title":{"rendered":"Blumhouse Officially Buys Rights to &#8216;Saw&#8217; Franchise With Wan &#038; Whannell Rejoining the Team"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It was just two weeks ago that the bombshell report came across our desk, with <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/06\/saw-blumhouse-atomic-monster-buy-out-1236423712\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Deadline<\/a> reporting that<strong> Blumhouse<\/strong> would be boarding the<strong> Saw<\/strong> franchise, and a fresh report from <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/film\/news\/blumhouse-saw-buys-rights-horror-franchise-1236435550\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Variety<\/a> this afternoon makes it officially official while also providing some additional info.<\/p>\n<p>But first, a little bit of recap\u2026<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s been a lot of talk about the future of the Saw\u00a0franchise in recent months, with some suggesting that the franchise is dead in the wake of\u00a0Saw XI\u00a0being pulled from the release schedule.\u00a0Coming off a successful tenth installment,\u00a0Saw XI\u00a0was set to release on\u00a0September 26, 2025, but<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/bloody-disgusting.com\/exclusives\/3858652\/saw-series-shocker-is-it-game-over-for-saw-xi-exclusive\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a0turmoil behind the scenes<\/a>\u00a0left the\u00a0fate of the franchise\u00a0hanging in the balance.<\/p>\n<p>From what we understand, Twisted Pictures and Lionsgate had disagreements that spelled the end of the planned\u00a0Saw XI, and temporarily left the franchise\u2019s future in limbo.<\/p>\n<p>So what changed\u2026 ?<\/p>\n<p>Lionsgate had owned 50% of the rights to Saw while Twisted Pictures owned the other half, and Blumhouse has now acquired the portion of the rights that had been owned by Twisted. With Lionsgate owning the other portion, Lionsgate &amp; Blumhouse will now work together on \u201call future films, shows and other properties featuring the murderous, torture-loving Jigsaw.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s particularly interesting here is that Saw franchise creators<strong> James Wan<\/strong> and<strong> Leigh Whannell<\/strong> will be \u201cbrought back into the fold,\u201d helping to \u201cguide the future of the franchise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto lrv-a-font-body-m \">\u201cSaw holds a special place in my heart,\u201d Wan said. \u201cComing back to this world with a fresh perspective is thrilling and deeply personal.
