(Saab)<\/p>\n<p>PARIS AIR SHOW \u2014 France formally announced that it plans on ordering two Saab <a href=\"https:\/\/breakingdefense.com\/2023\/02\/nato-begins-assessment-of-e-3a-replacement-wedgetail-globaleye-in-the-running\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GlobalEye<\/a> Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&amp;C) aircraft today here at Le Bourget, with a contract set to be finalized in a matter of months.<br \/>The Swedish manufacturer and the French DGA defense procurement agency signed a joint \u201cdeclaration of intent,\u201d pact which includes an option for an additional two aircraft, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.saab.com\/newsroom\/press-releases\/2025\/france-announces-intention-to-procure-globaleye-from-saab\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Saab statement<\/a>.<br \/>\u201cA final notification process to complete the procurement will now follow,\u201d it continued.<br \/>Micael Johansson, Saab CEO, welcomed the move, saying in the statement that GlobalEye \u201cwill enhance the French Armed Forces\u2019 situational awareness and threat detection across the air, land and sea domains.\u201d<br \/>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/PlJonson\/status\/1935367536339800307\">post on X<\/a>, Pal Jonson, Sweden\u2019s defense minister said that the new collaboration with France \u201cwill benefit our countries &amp; deepen interoperability.\u201d<br \/>The soon-to-be signed sale will enable Paris to replace retiring Boeing E3-F Sentry spy planes and marks Saab\u2019s second GlobalEye export, behind the United Arab Emirates, which operates five of the planes. While recapitalization of the aging E-3F fleet was planned ahead of a 2030 retirement, the French announcement arrived out of the blue, given Paris had largely refrained from sharing their plans on replacing the jets.<br \/>GlobalEye is a multidomain platform based off converted Bombardier Global 6500 business jets, and distinguished by Saab\u2019s Erieye surveillance radar. <br \/>\u201cBy providing real-time information to air forces, armies and navies, GlobalEye enables enhanced situational awareness of the surrounding areas and early detection of threats,\u201d noted Saab.<br \/>The new procurement builds off a 2024 bilateral strategic innovation partnership between France and Sweden that included a commitment to \u201cdevelop their cooperation in the field of air surveillance and air defence in order to face future aerial threats,\u201d [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.regeringen.se\/contentassets\/293dea8ef507445c9df5d73572e9aab7\/240130-strategic-innovation-partnership-between-france-and-sweden_eng-final.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PDF<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p>\t\tRecommended\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\" class=\"gallery-launch-img\"\/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"France has selected Saab\u2019s GlobalEye for its AEW&amp;C requirement.
