The shop will create 40 jobs, according to Lidl, which says it selected the spot next to Curry Mile because of the number of potential customers within a five-minute drive.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">But cycling and walking campaigners have hit out at the proposed design, which features 91 car parking spaces and silver cladding.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cIt will cause more chaos for Wilmslow Road. They [already] have to divert buses because there\u2019s too much traffic [sometimes],\u201d said Harry Gray from Walk Ride Greater Manchester.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cIt\u2019s a prime active frontage location next to one of the busiest high streets in Manchester.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Wilmslow Road traffic can build up as customers and deliveries make their way to Curry Mile, which features dozens of independent businesses. There is also another Lidl store at the other end of Curry Mile, only half-a-mile away.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Mr Gray argued introducing more journeys by car could affect the scores of Bee Network bus services that run along Wilmslow Road, which has been dubbed \u2018Europe\u2019s busiest bus route\u2019 in the past.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/142776_FO_2025-RV-172_WILMSLOW_EYE_LEVEL_VIEW_01A-2689340.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>How the new Lidl could look(Image: Lidl via planning portal)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Thousands of students use buses to get from home in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/fallowfield\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Fallowfield<\/a> to university campuses on <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/oxford-road\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Oxford Road<\/a>, which also serves as the main bus corridor for residents in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/withington\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Withington<\/a>, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/didsbury\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Didsbury<\/a>, and Northenden.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">He continued: \u201cIt does not fit in the big picture of what <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/andy-burnham\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Andy Burnham<\/a> is trying to achieve. The buses need to have space too and this will cause more traffic for an area that\u2019s important to the Bee Network.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Walk Ride is now calling for residents to object to the proposals on Manchester council\u2019s planning website, citing concerns over \u2018poor active frontage\u2019, \u2018excessive parking\u2019, and \u2018climate and place-making conflict\u2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cThe scheme should be redesigned to reduce parking, bring the building to the street edge, and prioritise active travel,\u201d its objection added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Lidl said \u2018the proposed new store, and the overall site, will have a clean and contemporary design\u2019 in its planning application.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">The plans for the new Lidl store can be viewed <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/pa.manchester.gov.uk\/online-applications\/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=documents&amp;keyVal=SV6DVGBCLXB00\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">online here<\/a>.
