But now, it can actually<br \/>\nhandle everything again. Evenepoel finished fourth overall and suffered his<br \/>\nown crash, but it was his isolation in key race moments that drew attention.<br \/>\nWhile Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard had multiple teammates around them,<br \/>\nEvenepoel was often left to fend for himself.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet\u2019s not sugarcoat it: Remco<br \/>\nsitting alone in a group of forty riders is not okay,\u201d Vervaeke admitted.<br \/>\n\u201cHaving to fetch bottles and ice himself, having to fight for position on his<br \/>\nown, that all costs energy, and it\u2019s just not sustainable if you\u2019re going into<br \/>\nthe Tour with a podium contender.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With <a href=\"https:\/\/cyclinguptodate.com\/mikel-landa\" title=\"Mikel Landa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mikel Landa<\/a> ruled out after<br \/>\nhis own crash at the Giro d\u2019Italia, and Valentin Paret-Peintre only recently<br \/>\nreturning from a broken tailbone, Vervaeke\u2019s comeback has become critical. \u201cI<br \/>\ndidn\u2019t have any guarantees, but I trusted I would have been selected. I think<br \/>\nI\u2019ve been a valuable asset for Remco in every grand tour so far. Right after<br \/>\nthe crash, I thought: \u2018Everything\u2019s ruined,\u2019 but within the team they\u2019re still<br \/>\noptimistic that they might be able to get me ready in time. That\u2019s a huge<br \/>\nmotivation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Belgian drew inspiration from<br \/>\npast recoveries in the sport, noting, \u201cApparently, Tom Pidcock won Olympic gold<br \/>\nfour weeks after breaking his collarbone.
