Always a gentleman, always professional, always singing his a** off, and always a pleasure to be around. He will be missed. Pearson tweeting of Christie: \u2018He took what could have been standard crooner pop fare and created wonderfully deranged shrieking anthems of lust and heartbreak. Beautiful voice and man. I met him once in NY 2014, I was shaking I was so nervous. One of my favs.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Saddened to hear about the passing of the great Lou Christie,\u2019 posted recording artist Justin Fabus. \u2018An amazing voice and a Pittsburgh legend. I had the privilege of meeting Lou and his kindness matched his incredible talent. My love and prayers go out to his family.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Christie was born Lugee Alfredo Giovanni Sacco in February 1943 in Glenwillard,\u00a0Pennsylvania, subsequently growing up in suburban\u00a0Pittsburgh.<\/p>\n<p>Aged 15, he struck up a friendship with longtime collaborator Twyla Herbert, who was almost 22 years older, and they began writing what would become hundreds of songs together \u2013 including his breakout hits.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"633\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/SEI_256045158-4df9.jpg\" class=\"article-image wp-image-23452546\" alt=\"UNSPECIFIED - JANUARY 01: Photo of Lou CHRISTIE; Lou Christie performing on stage (Photo by David Redfern\/Redferns)\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\"\/><br \/>\n\t\tI\u2019m Gonna Make You Mine was a number two in the UK in 1969 (Picture: David Redfern\/Redferns)<\/p>\n<p>Both The Gypsy Cried and Two Faces Have I sold over one million copies.<\/p>\n<p>Following this success he earned a coveted place on one of Dick Clark\u2019s Caravan of Stars tours\u00a0of the US, alongside the likes of <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/05\/06\/zendayas-iconic-reaction-diana-ross-upstaging-met-gala-red-carpet-23032650\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">music legend Diana Ross<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>After two years in the US Army he was back with a bang thanks to Lightnin\u2019 Strikes.<\/p>\n<p>When Rhapsody in the Rain raised eyebrows, it was over the line \u2018our love went much too far\u2019 when Christie was singing about a backseat encounter, which was later changed to \u2018love came like a falling star\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>In later years he had a hit with his version of Beyond the Blue Horizon in 1974 after embracing the country genre.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"421\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/GettyImages-115422539.jpg\" class=\"article-image wp-image-23452641\" alt=\"Mark Bego and LaLa Brooks Host a Valentine's Day Eve Party at The Cutting Room in New York City -
