{"id":196899,"date":"2025-06-19T10:29:09","date_gmt":"2025-06-19T10:29:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/196899\/"},"modified":"2025-06-19T10:29:09","modified_gmt":"2025-06-19T10:29:09","slug":"first-full-scale-wave-powered-breakwater-underway-in-france","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/196899\/","title":{"rendered":"First full-scale wave-powered breakwater underway in France"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>UK-based Legendre Group has started constructing the first full-scale demonstrator for the Dikwe project in Boulogne-sur-Mer, northern France, in collaboration with France-based GEPS Techno.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"505\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/1750172413688-e1750327407564-768x505.jpg\" class=\"attachment-medium_large size-medium_large\" alt=\"\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>Source: Legendre UK<\/p>\n<p>Supported by ADEME and the R\u00e9gion Hauts-de-France, the initiative <strong>aims to integrate wave energy generation into coastal protection infrastructure<\/strong> using oscillating panels, or \u201cflaps,\u201d mounted on breakwaters. These flaps are driven by the power of waves and are designed to convert their power into low-carbon electricity.<\/p>\n<p>The demonstrator is scheduled for completion by the end of 2025.<\/p>\n<p>After recognizing the potential of this technology, Legendre and GEPS Techno have decided to form a joint venture (JV), <strong>Wave-Op<\/strong>, to develop port infrastructure that can produce energy from wave activity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis demonstrator serves as a tangible example of a new generation of energy-producing port infrastructure,\u201d Legendre UK said in a social media post.<\/p>\n<p>The Dikwe project is being developed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.offshore-energy.biz\/french-consortium-makes-progress-on-wave-powered-breakwater-project\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a consortium of French companies<\/a>, including Legendre Group, GEPS Techno, and Ifremer.
