A man remains fighting for life after a suspected hit and run. Merseyside Police<\/a> were called to a crash on Princess Drive in Huyton<\/a> at around 6.30pm on Monday, June 16.<\/p>\n The crash involved a pedal cyclist and a man on a Sur-Ron electric bike. The man on the black Sur-Ron bike then rode off towards Liverpool Road.<\/p>\n Merseyside Police said the pedal cyclist, a man in his 40s, was taken to hospital with a potentially life-threatening injury to the head. He is in a critical but stable condition in hospital.<\/p>\n Road closures were put in place while the incident was being investigated and reopened on Tuesday. Following police enquiries,<\/a> a 29-year-old man from Huyton was arrested yesterday evening, Wednesday, June 18, on suspicion of section 18 wounding with intent, driving a vehicle dangerously, and driver of a vehicle fail to stop after a road accident.<\/p>\n He is still in police custody to be questioned. Detective Inspector Steve Byrom said: \u201cAlthough a man has been arrested in connection with the collision, our enquiries continue and we would urge anyone who has information about the incident, who we haven\u2019t already spoken to, to please contact us as it may prove vital to the investigation.<\/p>\n \u201cI urge those with CCTV, doorbell footage or dashcam systems in the area to please check your footage and the events leading up to the collision or the moments thereafter. Any help we receive, no matter how insignificant it may seem, could assist with enquiries.<\/p>\n \u201cWith this, I would like to thank people in the community who have assisted us. Officers from a number of departments across the force have worked together to bring this arrest.\u201d<\/p>\n DI Byrom added: \u201cA mobile police station was stationed in the area so residents could speak to officers and raise any concerns they had. We also posted letters to residents with an update on the work we are doing to target illegal bike use and theft of bikes using police tactics.<\/p>\n \u201cWe would like to assure the community that we are working hard to disrupt and arrest offenders involved in the illegal and anti-social use of electric bikes. Officers actively patrol area\u2019s where we receive reports of electric bikes causing anti-social behaviour or committing crime in the area.<\/p>\n \u201cIt is with community support and the information provided by them that we can take action and encourage anyone with information or sighting of people illegally using them to please contact us, as we understand harm it can cause in our communities.\u201d<\/p>\n Anyone with information on the incident should contact Merseyside Police social media desk via X @MerPolCC or on Facebook<\/a> \u2018Merseyside Police Contact Centre\u2019.
