Why?<\/p>\n<p>Mike Huckabee, the US ambassador to the United Nations, issued an \u201curgent notice\u201d to \u201cAmerican citizens wanting to leave <a href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/israel\" data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|AutoLink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Israel<\/a>\u201d. He said the US Embassy in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/israel\" data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|AutoLink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Israel<\/a> is \u201cworking on evacuation flights &amp; cruise ship departures\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Britain is taking a very different approach when it comes to evacuation plans \u2013 in public, at least.<\/p>\n<p>When asked whether the UK will take similar action to the Americans, a Downing Street spokesman said: \u201cI am not going to get into the details of our contingency planning here but there is a huge amount of work going on. It\u2019s clearly a very live and febrile issue at the moment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur diplomats and staff in the Foreign Office are working 24\/7 to provide consular services to those who require assistance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The spokesman said it is a \u201cfast-moving situation\u201d but the \u201csafety and security of British nationals remains our priority and we keep all our advice under constant review as you\u2019d expect, and likewise as you\u2019d expect we plan for a variety of scenarios and contingencies. We\u2019ve encouraged British nationals to register their presence and pay close attention to the travel advice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The UK Government is focused on trying to \u201cde-escalate\u201d the crisis and resuscitate the diplomatic process.
