Johnny Marr<\/a> has revealed why he holds no regrets about The Smiths\u2019 split and also explained his decision to reject a lucrative opportunity to reunite last year.<\/p>\n During a new appearance on Stick to Football, Marr reflected on The Smiths\u2019 decision to part ways in 1987 when the guitarist was only 24 years old. He stated their future had become \u201cuntenable\u201d, but also admitted he was fearful for his future in the music industry due to his age.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was horrible, because I was so young, it was an emotional decision,\u201d he shared. However, when asked whether he has any regrets about the band calling it quits, Marr honestly reflected, \u201cFunnily enough, I don\u2019t, no. It was untenable, really, and it wasn\u2019t an impulsive decision, either.\u201d<\/p>\n Elaborating on why he couldn\u2019t continue with The Smiths, Marr stated: \u201cI looked at it for quite a long time and I was really about it, really. It certainly wasn\u2019t a career decision because I had to really look at what\u2019s next.\u201d<\/p>\n Marr continued: \u201cI have grown-up children, and I\u2019m getting very serious here, but I\u2019d like to think if they were in a similar position that they\u2019d do the same as me. That\u2019s why I don\u2019t regret it. At the age of 61 now, I look back and go, \u2018Ballsy\u2019.\u201d <\/p>\n The guitarist also opened up about the reunion offer they received in 2024. Marr told host Gary Neville: \u201cWe got made an offer really recently, in fact, but yeah, I said no.\u201d The guitarist added: \u201cI\u2019m not an idiot, the vibe\u2019s not right. Bad vibe.\u201d<\/p>\n After Oasis announced their reunion last August, Morrissey revealed news of the opportunity in a blog post on his website: \u201cIn June 2024 AEG Entertainment Group made a lucrative offer to both Morrissey and Marr to tour worldwide<\/a> as \u2018The Smiths\u2019 throughout 2025. Morrissey said Yes to the offer; Marr ignored the offer.\u201d <\/p>\n Additionally, The Smiths vocalist made a series of claims about Marr regarding trademarks related to the band, which Marr explained were made in order to \u201cprevent third parties from profiting from the band\u2019s name\u201d.
