{"id":197402,"date":"2025-06-19T14:55:13","date_gmt":"2025-06-19T14:55:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/197402\/"},"modified":"2025-06-19T14:55:13","modified_gmt":"2025-06-19T14:55:13","slug":"millions-of-uk-tourists-in-spain-told-not-to-drink-beer-or-coffee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/197402\/","title":{"rendered":"Millions of UK tourists in Spain told not to drink beer or coffee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Temperatures are expected to soar past 40C in Spain, leading to experts warning against alcohol and coffee<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/0_European-Tourists-Flock-To-Benidorm-For-Their-Summer-Holidays.jpg\" alt=\"People enjoying a pint of beer in Benidorm, Spain\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>Temperatures are expected to soar past 40C in Spain(Image: Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Spain welcomes 17 million Brits every year, with the bulk of them coming during the summer months to enjoy a cup of coffee or, more likely, several drinks of beer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">However, the nation is urging caution from doing so, as temperatures are already in the high 30Cs and could soon blow past 40C.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Now, the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has warned that multiple regions could be enveloped by the sweltering temperature, with both the northern and southern regions placed on orange alert.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">Read more: <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/motoring\/motoring-news\/drivers-face-100-fines-after-31890966\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Drivers face \u00a3100 fines after cyclists send 15,000 videos to police<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The warning is particularly aimed at those heading to Andalusia, and the city of Cordoba, as it is preparing to battle the brunt of the heatwave.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It&#8217;s resulted in Spain&#8217;s Ministry of Health issuing a public warning advising the public to stay sober.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Health officials said: \u201cAvoid alcohol, caffeine, and sugary drinks, as they can worsen dehydration during heatwaves.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Sipping a cold, crisp lager might seem like a good idea at first, but alcohol is dehydrating, potentially leading to some disastrous consequences in such hot weather.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The public has been advised to remain sufficiently hydrated by drinking water regularly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">They have also been urged to wear light clothing, stay out of the sun and avoid strenuous exercise.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The main concern is heatstroke, which is caused by a cocktail of high heat and lack of hydrating liquid.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/nhs\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">NHS<\/a> warns: &#8220;Heat exhaustion does not usually need emergency medical help if you can cool down within 30 minutes. If it turns into heatstroke, it needs to be treated as an emergency.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The signs of heat exhaustion include:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"UnorderedList_unordered-list__gzblI\">\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">tiredness<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">dizziness<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">headache<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">feeling sick or being sick<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">excessive sweating and skin becoming pale and clammy or getting a heat rash, but a change in skin colour can be harder to see on brown and black skin<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">cramps in the arms, legs and stomach<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">fast breathing or heartbeat<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">a high temperature<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">being very thirsty<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">weakness<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The NHS also recommends four steps to follow is someone you know is dealing with heat exhaustion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Move them to a cool place.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Remove all unnecessary clothing like a jacket or socks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Get them to drink a sports or rehydration drink, or cool water.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Cool their skin \u2013 spray or sponge them with cool water and fan them.
