(Photo by Alex Dodd - CameraSport via Getty Images)\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>An aerial view of the Etihad Stadium<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">A plethora of sporting venues and events across Greater Manchester could benefit from \u00a3900m of investment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The huge cash pot, announced by the government, will support a pipeline of major international events and deliver new grassroots facilities that can drive economic growth and inspire people of all ages to get active.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The government funding will be split in two parts, \u00a3500m for sport events across the UK and \u00a3400m to be invested in new and upgraded grassroots facilities that promote health, wellbeing and community cohesion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Manchester City\u2019s Etihad Stadium will host UEFA Euro 2028 matches; <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/sale\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Sale<\/a> Shark\u2019s <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/salford\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Salford<\/a> Community Stadium is set to welcome games in the Women&#8217;s Rugby World Cup later this year; and the Old <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/trafford\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Trafford<\/a> Cricket Ground will play a key role in both the ICC T20 Cricket women\u2019s and men\u2019s World Cups in 2026 and 2030 respectively.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/0_GettyImages-1339415495.jpg\" alt=\"The fifth test between England and India at Old Trafford has been cancelled just hours before it was due to start.\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Old Trafford Cricket Ground(Image: (Photo by Stu Forster\/Getty Images))<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">This means the city-region is sure to benefit from this cash boost over the next few years due to it&#8217;s continued role in these international events.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">How the cash will be spent is still to be decided. The Department for Culture, Media and Sport will work closely with sporting bodies and local leaders to establish what each community needs and then set out further plans.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Lisa Nandy, said: &#8220;Sport tells our national story in a way few other things can \u2013 uniting communities, inspiring millions, and showcasing our nation on the global stage.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/0_Government-Ministers-Attend-Weekly-Cabinet-Meeting.jpg\" alt=\"Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Lisa Nand has said she is looking at how the BBC is funded\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Lisa Nand (Image: Carl Court, Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;This major backing for world-class events will drive economic growth across the country, delivering on our Plan for Change.
