\n The Wales Wildfire Board is urging people to be ‘Wildfire Wise’ after seeing a 407 per cent increase in wildfires between March and May 2025.\n<\/p>\n
\n The board has asked people to respect the countryside and follow safety advice.\n<\/p>\n
\n Andrew Wright, chair of the Wales Wildfire Board, said: “As the seasons change, and the promise of warmer weather is on the horizon, it is the ideal time to enjoy a variety of outdoor activities, book your staycations or holidays, take your family on a camping trip, or just enjoy your local area.\n<\/p>\n
\n “Every year, fire is responsible for the destruction of thousands of hectares of countryside, open space and wildlife habitats.\n<\/p>\n
\n “We want to work with our communities to build a healthier and resilient countryside and to develop a more biodiverse countryside for the future.”\n<\/p>\n
\n The board has warned of the dangers of wildfires, which can spread quickly, damaging land and property.\n<\/p>\n
\n Mr Wright added: “Air quality is severely compromised during and after wildfires.\n<\/p>\n
\n “Smoke can travel hundreds of miles, affecting communities far removed from the flames.\n<\/p>\n
\n “The economic fallout from wildfires is also often misunderstood and, in many cases, is profound and long-lasting.\n<\/p>\n
\n “Wildfires can also disrupt ecosystems, cause a loss of biodiversity and alter habitats for countless species.”\n<\/p>\n
\n The Wales Wildfire Board is implementing programmes focused on fire preparedness, education, and support to aid communities in recovery.\n<\/p>\n
