They should contact the child\u2019s school to find out about how to access the vouchers, which are paid for from the government\u2019s Household Support Fund.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/1_Liz-Kendall.jpg\" alt=\"Liz Kendall\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/> Liz Kendall, the welfare secretary(Image: GETTY)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">In March Liz Kendall, the welfare secretary, slashed the budget for the Household Support Fund by \u00a3100 million. That leaves Bristol with about \u00a31 million less to spend this year, with a total of \u00a37.1 million left over.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Around 60 per cent of this will be spent on food vouchers, which won\u2019t face budget cuts \u2014 although other support such as <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/news\/bristol-news\/budget-cuts-debt-advice-services-10275640\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">debt advice<\/a> will receive less funding this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Throughout the year, the council will spend \u00a33.8 million on food vouchers. This was approved by councillors on the strategy and resources policy committee.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Graham Clapp, head of revenue and benefits, said: \u201cThat\u2019s a \u00a315 voucher per child per week for the May, October and February half terms; \u00a330 per child for the Christmas holidays and \u00a390 per child for the summer holidays. That works out at about 60 per cent of the fund.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Free school meal vouchers have been given to parents over the holidays since 2020.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">As well as the vouchers, there is a range of options for people struggling to afford to buy enough healthy food.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The council will pay Feeding Bristol, a local charity, \u00a3650,000 this year to help with support such as food pantries and boxes of vegetables.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/labour-party\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Labour<\/a> Councillor Ellie King said: \u201cIt\u2019s quite clear the importance of the work that Feeding Bristol do to support some of the vulnerable in the city.
