Andy Roche is the last man standing. The blocks of flats around him are set to be bulldozed, and they are the final ones left on the doomed Lower Falinge estate.<\/p>\n

Out of the 24 homes in the Zedburgh block, Andy\u2019s is the only one left occupied – and he\u2019s not budging.<\/p>\n

This week we\u2019re focusing on George Lythgoe\u2019s excellent report on the planned demolition of blocks of flats on what David Cameron once described as a \u2018sink estate\u2019.<\/a> Andy Roche has lived in his building since 1988 and has no intention of going anywhere.<\/p>\n

As he told George: \u201cWe\u2019re not against regeneration, per say, but it\u2019s about what their plan actually is and we just don\u2019t know. It\u2019s quiet now, but it did have a community that has all gone away now.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have been split as well, the new homes are between us and the other half of the estate – so they\u2019ve ripped us in half.\u201d Andy is one of the last remaining campaigners fighting to save the blocks.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s upsetting to see them empty,\u201d the Zedburgh block resident said. \u201cBecause I really like living here.\u201d It\u2019s a fascinating tale worth your time.<\/p>\n
