A landmark Birmingham pub has shut for good – with its landlord blaming several factors for its closure.<\/p>\n
Post Office Vaults in Pinfold Street, just off Victoria Square<\/a>, has called last orders for the final time.<\/p>\n Its landlord, Mike Perkins, cited a big drop in customers, linked to people working from home, coupled with a large rise in prices for its downfall.<\/p>\n The city centre venue has been struggling and Mike had sounded the alarm around a month ago saying \u2018things need to change\u2019.<\/p>\n Read more: Warning as one of city’s best pubs on brink of closure<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n At the time he said people working from home had made his business \u2018unsustainable\u2019<\/a> and said he had seen a massive drop in trade since Covid<\/a> hit in 2020.<\/p>\n That drop in footfall has seen the number of punters in town drop and lunchtime and after work trade slump.<\/p>\n He said the only thing which had managed to sustain the Post Office Vaults in recent times were its regulars. But now even that was not enough.<\/p>\n Now, Mike has pulled the plug on the business and closed it for good.<\/p>\n In an emotional post on the venue\u2019s social media pages, he said: \u201cThis is a challenging post to write!<\/p>\n \u201cUnfortunately, I\u2019m sad to say that the time has come to close the pub.<\/p>\n \u201cIt has been 15 years of the most rewarding, challenging, mental, funny, difficult, enjoyable experiences of my life.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s given me so many great memories, friendships and laughs I\u2019ll carry with me forever- (along with my massively increased beer belly).<\/p>\n Read more: The ‘madhouse’ Birmingham pub where you can go on a ‘crawl around the world’<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n He said: \u201cUnfortunately, the way this trade has been since Covid with people working from home, it has halved our trade.<\/p>\n \u201cThe cost of our bottles since Brexit has made them about 30 per cent more expensive (even after lowering our GP), whilst the available range has cut down by 50 pr cent.<\/p>\n \u201cObviously, that\u2019s not good when your USP [unique selling point] is rare imported beers.\u201d<\/p>\n![\"](\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/0_JS369116193.jpg\")
