The trend is helping fuel a <a target=\"_blank\" class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/studio-ghibli-style-ai-art-trend-fuels-chatgpt-growth-2025-4\" data-analytics-product-module=\"body_link\" rel=\"noopener\">record spike in users<\/a>, so much so that OpenAI is struggling to keep up.<\/p>\n<p>The surge in ChatGPT users should benefit Microsoft because it boosts OpenAI&#8217;s growth, computing needs, and valuation, Jefferies analysts led by Brent Thill said in a note on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/microsoft-openai-put-price-tag-achieving-agi-2024-12\" data-analytics-product-module=\"body_link\" rel=\"noopener\">Microsoft is a major investor<\/a> in the artificial intelligence firm and its primary cloud provider. The company also integrates OpenAI&#8217;s large language models into its products. Last week, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella <a target=\"_blank\" class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/asia.nikkei.com\/Editor-s-Picks\/Interview\/Microsoft-mulls-developing-own-high-end-generative-AI-CEO-Nadella\" data-analytics-product-module=\"body_link\" rel=\" nofollow noopener\">said<\/a> the company may build its own generative-AI capability to complement its partnership with OpenAI.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We would glean that surging ChatGPT user growth likely indicates surging ChatGPT+ growth i.e. revenue growth for OpenAI,&#8221; the analysts wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The analysts also said <a target=\"_blank\" class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/openai-sam-altman-first-open-weight-ai-model-in-years-2025-3\" data-analytics-product-module=\"body_link\" rel=\"noopener\">OpenAI&#8217;s most recent funding round<\/a> was beneficial to Microsoft. On Monday, OpenAI announced it closed the largest private tech funding round on record. The company raised $40 billion from SoftBank and other investors, bringing the company&#8217;s valuation to $300 billion. The ChatGPT maker was last valued at $157 billion in October.<\/p>\n<p>Jefferies has a buy rating on Microsoft and a price target of $500. The stock closed at $382 on Tuesday. It&#8217;s down 9.3% over the past year.<\/p>\n<p>Record ChatGPT usage<\/p>\n<p>ChatGPT has become a household name since its launch in November 2022, but <a target=\"_blank\" class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/studio-ghibli-openai-chatgpt-image-feature-copyright-law-2025-3\" data-analytics-product-module=\"body_link\" rel=\"noopener\">last week&#8217;s animation trend<\/a> sent demand soaring.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\" nofollow\" class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/sama\/status\/1906771292390666325\" data-analytics-product-module=\"body_link\">wrote on X<\/a> that ChatGPT had <a target=\"_blank\" class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/studio-ghibli-style-ai-art-trend-fuels-chatgpt-growth-2025-4\" data-analytics-product-module=\"body_link\" rel=\"noopener\">added 1 million users<\/a> in the past hour. At its launch two years ago, it took five days to reach that number of users.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, ChatGPT&#8217;s weekly app downloads, weekly active users, and revenue from subscriptions and in-app purchases reached an all-time high \u2014 increasing 11%, 5%, and 6%, respectively, week over week \u2014 according to data from the market intelligence firm Sensor Tower.<\/p>\n<p>Besides Microsoft, producers of graphics processing units stand to benefit from the Ghibli hype.
