ALLY MCCOIST was one of the many millions glued to their TV set watching Rory McIlroy make history at the Masters this weekend.<\/p>\n

And as the Rangers<\/a> legend congratulated the golf<\/a> superstar on his win at Augusta, he was shown a rare piece of footage that had him beaming even more.<\/p>\n

McIlroy<\/a> put himself and his fans through the absolute wringer during an incredibly thrilling final round that went all the way down to a sudden death play-off<\/a> against Ryder Cup<\/a> team mate Justin Rose<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Northern Irishman had a five-shot lead at one point but he faltered around Amen Corner and Rose shot up the leaderboard from seemingly nowhere, culminating in a birdie at the last.<\/p>\n

But McIlroy triumphed as they went back up the 18th and he sunk to his knees, finally able to call himself a Masters champion.<\/p>\n

Scottish footie icon McCoist<\/a> was on talkSPORT<\/a> this morning with Jeff Stelling<\/a> hosting the Sports Breakfast show and they devoted a good bit of time to discussing McIlroy’s achievement.<\/p>\n

And the producers ran an old clip of McIlroy appearing on Irish chat show Kelly from 1999, when he was aged just nine.<\/p>\n

In the segment, the young prodigy reveals that he has a unique way of working on his game whilst at home – by chipping into his mum’s washing machine!<\/p>\n

And he then goes onto show everyone exactly how it’s done, with the audience lapping it up.<\/p>\n

McCoist admitted he’d never seen it before and that he found the adorable footage incredible to watch.<\/p>\n

He said: “Aw wow, isn’t that amazing?<\/p>\n

“I’ve never seen that before!<\/p>\n

“Have you seen that before, Jeff?<\/p>\n

“That was tremendous, I’d struggle to hit the washing machine never mind put the ball in it!<\/p>\n

“Nine years of age, that was brilliant to see.”<\/p>\n

McCoist raved about Sunday’s events at Augusta and predicted even more success for McIlroy.<\/p>\n

You’d recognise that smile a mile off!<\/p>\n

He praised him for bouncing back after a double bogey on the first hole of his final round – and for his many miraculous recoveries after.<\/p>\n

McCoist said: “That was not the ideal start, far from it!<\/p>\n

“But some of the golf he played, some of those shots, that shot he played into the 15th, dear me! Absolutely magnificent.<\/p>\n

“And like when you watch any big sporting event it was filled with drama, mistakes, tension, pressure, some absolute brilliance. We saw it all.”<\/p>\n

Asked if McIlroy will now go onto win more majors after finally completing the Career Grand Slam, McCoist said emphatically: “Yes. He goes and does it again.<\/p>\n

“That’s the sign of greatness. The good players can do it once in a couple of majors but the great players, Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Gene Sarazen, Arnold Palmer, they go and do it again.<\/p>\n

“And you know what, with the pressure off him, I don’t see any reason why he won’t go and do it again.”<\/p>\n
