{"id":201920,"date":"2025-06-21T07:07:16","date_gmt":"2025-06-21T07:07:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/201920\/"},"modified":"2025-06-21T07:07:16","modified_gmt":"2025-06-21T07:07:16","slug":"study-reveals-retirement-costs-without-social-security-across-states","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/201920\/","title":{"rendered":"Study reveals retirement costs without Social Security across states"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Ramsey Solutions financial expert George Kamel weighs in on Americans working past retirement age and provides advice for investors.<\/p>\n<p>Retirement remains top of mind for many Americans, whether they are approaching their so-called &#8220;golden years&#8221; or have many years to go before leaving the workforce.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>How much money a person needs to have saved to retire without financial stress is an important consideration in the retirement preparation process, and that can vary depending on various factors, including where someone intends to live and their retirement income sources.<\/p>\n<p>A study released this week\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gobankingrates.com\/retirement\/planning\/cost-to-retire-comfortably-without-social-security-in-your-state\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">by GOBankingRates<\/a> calculated the amount of money that a &#8220;comfortable&#8221; retirement would require without income from Social Security factored in and the associated yearly expenses a retiree would face in each U.S. state.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/personal-finance\/retirement-account-balances-dip-first-quarter-savers-keep-contributing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>RETIREMENT ACCOUNT BALANCES DIP IN THE 1ST QUARTER, BUT SAVERS KEEP CONTRIBUTING<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>     <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/401k-pension-retirement-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"401k pension retirement\"\/> <\/p>\n<p>A retired couple walks arm in arm on the beach. The trustees for Social Security and Medicare <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/economy\/social-security-trust-funds-now-projected-run-dry-2034-triggering-massive-benefit-cuts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recently found<\/a> that if Social Security\u2019s Old-Age and Survivors Insurance and Disability Insurance trust funds were combined, the trust funds would be able to pay 100% of scheduled benefits until 2034, one year earlier than reported last year. After that, the trust funds would be able to pay only 81% of scheduled benefits, meaning Social Security recipients would see a mandatory 19% cut automatically.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>For the GOBankingRates study, the benchmark for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/category\/modern-retirement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;comfortable&#8221; retirement<\/a> was a person holding twice the amount of money as the cost of living expenses.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/personal-finance\/nearly-half-generation-x-not-confident-about-retirement-survey-finds\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>NEARLY HALF OF GENERATION X IS NOT CONFIDENT ABOUT RETIREMENT<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Hawaii tops the list of where the most savings would be necessary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/category\/retire\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">to retire<\/a> &#8220;comfortably&#8221; at 60 years old without Social Security, while West Virginia, nicknamed the Mountain State, required the least, it said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>GOBankingRates found the nest egg that a person would need to accommodate a comfortable retirement at 60 years old sans <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/category\/social-security-benefits\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Social Security<\/a> in each state.<\/p>\n<p>Alabama ($70,492 cost of living per year): $1,409,839\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>    <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/huntsville-1.jpg\" alt=\"Huntsville Alabama\"\/> <\/p>\n<p>Huntsville, Alabama, USA park and downtown cityscape at twilight.
