\n The local authority\u2019s Environmental Protection team is delivering a week of activities for Clean Air Day, which took place on Thursday, as part of a broader campaign to inform residents about air pollution and steps they can take to make a difference.\n<\/p>\n
\n Councillor John Cook, portfolio holder for communities and sport at the council, said: “Air pollution affects everyone, but especially vulnerable groups like children, elderly people, and those with health conditions.\n<\/p>\n
\n “On Clean Air Day, we\u2019re raising awareness of the vital work we do monitoring and managing air quality across the borough.\n<\/p>\n
\n “We\u2019re also inspiring local people and organisations to take action that benefits both our health and the environment.”\n<\/p>\n
\n Castle Hill pupils (Image: Ipswich Borough Council) On Thursday, the team hosted an information stall at Ipswich Hospital, offering educational materials, children\u2019s activities, and advice on reducing pollution and personal exposure.\n<\/p>\n
\n An anti-idling event was also held at the hospital, encouraging drivers to switch off their engines while stationary.\n<\/p>\n
\n Earlier in the week, the team delivered a webinar on air quality to healthcare professionals at Ipswich and Colchester hospitals.\n<\/p>\n
\n They also visited Castle Hill Primary School, where they spoke to 240 pupils about air quality.\n<\/p>\n
\n St Pancras and their pledges (Image: Ipswich Borough Council) Similar school visits took place during Walk to School Week in May, reaching nearly 500 children at Cliff Lane, St Pancras Catholic, and St Mary\u2019s Catholic primary schools.\n<\/p>\n
\n At the school gates of St Mary\u2019s and St Pancras, the team promoted anti-idling, encouraging parents to turn off engines while parked.\n<\/p>\n
\n Councillor Lucy Trenchard, portfolio holder for parks and climate change, said: “Alongside the hard work the council is doing, every individual effort counts and contributes to reducing Ipswich\u2019s carbon footprint.”\n<\/p>\n
