{"id":202140,"date":"2025-06-21T09:06:14","date_gmt":"2025-06-21T09:06:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/202140\/"},"modified":"2025-06-21T09:06:14","modified_gmt":"2025-06-21T09:06:14","slug":"birmingham-city-council-issues-floozie-in-the-jacuzzi-update-after-19-dry-months","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/202140\/","title":{"rendered":"Birmingham City Council issues Floozie in the Jacuzzi update after 19 dry months"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Birmingham City Council says it&#8217;s making repairs to the Floozie in the Jacuzzi fountain which has been dry for nearly two years.<\/p>\n<p>The water feature in Centenary Square has been out of action since October 2023, when it was turned off to accommodate the Ice Skate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Birmingham;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Birmingham<\/a> event.<\/p>\n<p>The authority has not said when it would flow again &#8211; when its revamped look was revealed.<\/p>\n<p>The Greater Birmingham and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/solihull\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Solihull;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Solihull<\/a> Local Enterprise Partnership even claimed that it would &#8220;reinforce Birmingham&#8217;s status as a global city&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>However, the iconic fountains, a key feature of the landmark square, have now been inactive for over a year-and-a-half and still need repairs as summer begins.<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of a full council meeting this week, Conservative councillor Deirdre Alden asked: &#8220;When does the council expect the water feature in Centenary Square to actually feature water again?&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The Labour-run council did not provide a specific date in their response but mentioned that work is currently being carried out to identify the &#8220;necessary repairs&#8221; for the fountain.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We will undertake those repairs and then complete a further review to ensure the fountain is functional,&#8221; they added.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;On successful completion, the feature will be operational.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for the council provided an update on the fountains last month but once again did not specify when the fountains could be turned back on.<\/p>\n<p>The iconic fountain in Centenary Square could be due a refresh, as a council representative reported to the Local Democracy Reporting Service in May that spend approvals are underway with hopes of it returning to operational state soon.<\/p>\n<p>Bernard Carroll recently expressed residents&#8217;
