A former long-reigning world heavyweight champion is targeting a showdown with Anthony Joshua<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Joshua has not fought since he suffered a devastating fifth round knockout defeat to countryman Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium last September<\/a> in his attempt to become a three-time heavyweight champion.<\/p>\n

It has been confirmed in recent weeks that the 35-year-old from Watford will make his return to the ring before the end of the year, with an official date and opponent expected to be announced in due course.<\/p>\n

One man that could face Joshua<\/a> in his return is former WBC world heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder<\/a>, who is also coming off a brutal knockout loss to China\u2019s Zhilei \u2018Big Bang\u2019 Zhang.<\/p>\n

In an interview with Inside Boxing Live<\/a>, Wilder said that he would welcome a potential showdown with \u2018AJ\u2019 in the near future.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m in it to win it. The heavyweight division is a small division so all of us can fight six, seven times because it\u2019s so small. I\u2019m in it to fight whoever, whenever, wherever. I\u2019m a fighter. I have a fighter mentality. I have a king mentality. I don\u2019t shy away from fights.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs long as he\u2019s in the division and I\u2019m in the division, I\u2019m always willing to fight whoever no matter what the situation is.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u2018The Bronze Bomber\u2019 followed this up with one final message for Joshua.<\/p>\n

Wilder is just one week away from making his return to the ring when he faces countryman Tyrrell Herndon in a non-title heavyweight bout at the Charles Koch Arena in Kansas on Friday June 27. Should he win as expected, there is no bigger match-up for him that Joshua after the pair failed to strike a deal back when they were both champions.<\/p>\n
