{"id":203204,"date":"2025-06-21T18:48:13","date_gmt":"2025-06-21T18:48:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/203204\/"},"modified":"2025-06-21T18:48:13","modified_gmt":"2025-06-21T18:48:13","slug":"bi-lions-tom-curry-slammed-for-illegal-and-dangerous-tactics-planet-rugby","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/203204\/","title":{"rendered":"B&#038;I Lions: Tom Curry slammed for &#8216;illegal&#8217; and dangerous tactics : Planet Rugby"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>British and Irish Lions flanker Tom Curry has come under fire for dangerous scrummaging tactics in the clash against Argentina.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Curry played a full 80 minutes in the 24-28 defeat to Los Pumas but many onlookers feel that he should have spent time in the sin bin at least after his actions at a scrum.<\/p>\n<p>The incident in question occurred during a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetrugby.com\/category\/british-and-irish-lions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lions<\/a>\u2018 scrum during the second half, where <a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetrugby.com\/tag\/tom-curry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Curry<\/a> appeared to launch himself into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetrugby.com\/team\/argentina\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Argentina\u2019s<\/a> replacement loosehead prop, Boris Wenger.<\/p>\n<p>World Rugby Law 19.7.d states that: \u201cAll other [not front rowers and second rowers] players in the scrum bind on a lock\u2019s body with at least one arm.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tom Curry\u2019s actions<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, many felt that Curry was guilty of contravening law 9.11: \u201cPlayers must not do anything that is reckless or dangerous to others, including leading with the elbow or forearm, or jumping into, or over, a tackler.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Curry was spotted doing similar during the 2021 British and Irish Lions Series against the Springboks which resulted in an injury for Ox Nche and his latest action clearly angered fans online.<\/p>\n<p>@FrontRowGrunt posted a video of what occurred on his X profile, formerly Twitter, where he accused the Lions team of coaching the tactics to the players.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnother Lions tactic that has been coached, is to have the flank come up into the front row when under pressure in the scrum. Illegal, easy to spot. He\u2019s done it for years. It\u2019s also head to head contact on the other flanker.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another fan added: \u201cTom Curry does this all the time! If I\u2019m Australia coaches\/captains I\u2019m making this point to every referee before the tests.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One person who replied to the original post believes that it is not something coached by the Lions but rather something that Curry does regularly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that\u2019s a Tom Curry thing, not a Lions thing. He\u2019s done it for years for England and Sale. I\u2019m actually amazed he gets away with it just casually breaking on and joining the front row,\u201d the post read.<\/p>\n<p>Angus Usher added: \u201cTom Curry was back at it again last night. It\u2019s crazy that years later he is still getting away with it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I do feel for the referees, they have so much going on at scrum time that it\u2019s not on their mind.
