According to Sport1 journalist Stefan Kumberger (via @iMiaSanMia<\/a>), Bayern Munich<\/a> board member for sport Max Eberl has headed back to Germany to get some work done for the summer transfer window<\/a>: <\/p>\n

Max Eberl flew back to Europe where he will continue to work on possible transfers there and meet his respective negotiating partners in person. There\u2019s no fixed date for his return to the US \u2013 even if Bayern reach the round of 16 or quarter-finals. Over the past few days, Eberl had conducted various talks from the team hotel in Orlando. <\/p>\n

Phone calls, video calls, emails, and more\u2014which wasn\u2019t an easy task given the six-hour time difference to Europe. Now priorities are shifting, as some discussions have progressed to the point where in-person meetings are necessary. In this respect, the next transfer could soon be on the cards.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg<\/a> confirmed the Sport1 report and added more context. Per Plettenberg, Eberl had a specific task in his return trip to Germany \u2014 a meeting with the supervisory board regarding another potential proposal to Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams: <\/p>\n

Max Eberl flew back to Munich to meet with Uli Hoene\u00df, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and other board members. It was decided that the club wouldn\u2019t give up hope on Nico Williams yet. There\u2019s even a consideration to make a new, improved offer to Williams to show him that Bayern want him and that they\u2019re there in case the move to Barcelona fell through. As things stand, Williams is only waiting for Barcelona and is not speaking to other clubs. At the same time, Bayern continue to be in contact with the management of (Bradley) Barcola and (Rafael) Le\u00e3o.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

However, Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund told DAZN (via @iMiaSanMia<\/a>) that eber\u2019s return to germany was not motivated by any one issue or deal. <\/p>\n

\u201cThere was no particular reason. But we sat down and decided to split up. There are some talks to be had, he\u2019ll be in European time. We think this is a good fit right now,\u201d said Freund. <\/p>\n

Hmmm…<\/p>\n

Anyway, FC Barcelona<\/a> will reportedly have some trouble making things work financially and could also have player registration issues. Maybe it is not a certainty that Barca can get the deal done, but it is also fair to question whether or not Bayern Munich is using its time efficiently on what appears to be a longshot. The same could be said about a move for PSG\u2019s Barcola, who really could be just using Bayern Munich to get a raise from the Champions League winners. <\/p>\n

Hopefully, it will all end up being a gamble worth taking.<\/p>\n
