Officers have slapped a dispersal order on an upmarket Cheshire<\/a> village ahead of a potential car meet.<\/p>\n

Cheshire Police says it has been made aware of a planned, unauthorised car meet, scheduled for this weekend in Alderley Edge<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The meet has not been approved by either police or the council, as required for such events.<\/p>\n

In response, a dispersal order came into effect at 1.36pm today (June 21) and will last until 10pm on Sunday night.<\/p>\n

The order covers a large part of Alderley Edge, including London Road, the high street which runs through the heart of the village.<\/p>\n

Cheshire Police says previous car meets in the area have attracted hundreds of people and caused significant distress to locals.<\/p>\n

Many of those in attendance have been in high-powered vehicles driving dangerously, causing excessive noise and anti-social behaviour, the force says.<\/p>\n

Police are warning that anyone who breaches the dispersal order, or commits any criminal offences, will be dealt with robustly both during and following the scheduled event.<\/p>\n

Chief Inspector Zoe Bowden, head of Macclesfield<\/a> Local Policing Unit, said: “I understand the frustration and anger that illegal car meets cause, and I hope that this dispersal order will provide reassurance to the local community.<\/p>\n

“This is an ongoing problem in the local area, and I want to reassure residents that we are committed doing all we can to tackle the issue.<\/p>\n

“We have a zero-tolerance approach to those who break the law, and I want to make it clear that action will be taken against anyone who breaches the dispersal order this weekend.<\/p>\n

“This could include vehicle seizures, penalty notices, notifying insurance companies, or arrest and prosecution where necessary.<\/p>\n

“This order is not aimed at people meeting in their cars peacefully, simply those disrupting local communities and acting in an anti-social manner.<\/p>\n

“Our message is clear \u2013 anti-social behaviour and anti-social use of vehicles will not be tolerated.”<\/p>\n
