A man has been arrested and a woman and baby are in hospital following a major disturbance in Edinburgh<\/a>.<\/p>\n Police, including firearms officers<\/a> and a K9 unit raced to the capital’s St Leonard’s Street at around 9am on Saturday morning.<\/p>\n The street was cordoned off as multiple emergency vehicles<\/a> swarmed the scene, with a residential building evacuated as a precaution.<\/p>\n Police said a 46-year-old man was arrested<\/a> in connection with causing a disturbance.<\/p>\n A 38-year-old woman and a baby were taken to hospital<\/a>.<\/p>\n The street was closed at the junction of St Leonard\u2019s Place and Lutton Place, and officers were patrolling the area<\/a> on foot.<\/p>\n Images from the scene showed an officer guarding the cordon<\/a> at one end of the street, with a police car blocking the opposite end. A sign warns motorists that the road is closed.<\/p>\n Around eight emergency vehicles, including an ambulance and what appears to be an incident response unit<\/a> van, were also present. The majority lined the street outside a block of flats on one side.<\/p>\n Eyewitnesses earlier reported seeing “riot police” in the street. One reported that local residents<\/a> had been evacuated from their homes while the incident was ongoing. This was later confirmed by police.<\/p>\n They said: “Swat team and dogs were deployed to the building. Negotiators arriving just now. The rest of the building has been evacuated<\/a>.<\/p>\n “A man occasionally appears at the top floor window, seemingly conversing with officers<\/a> below, whilst drinking a cup of tea!
