Wrexham and Birmingham City are both interested in signing one Premier League player this summer.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It was reported previously that Wrexham wanted Harry Darling<\/a>, but Birmingham City were also in that race.<\/p>\n

However, neither side will sign the ex-Swansea City defender now, with Norwich City landing Darling instead<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But there\u2019s another player that both recently promoted sides are said to be eyeing this summer.<\/p>\n

It was reported earlier this month that Wrexham are interested in Tommy Doyle<\/a> of Wolverhampton Wanderers.<\/p>\n

Reports this week, meanwhile, have named Birmingham as favourites to land Doyle, as per EFL Analysis<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Interest in Doyle comes with the midfielder having fallen heavily out of favour in the second half of 2024\/25.<\/p>\n

He did make 24 Premier League appearances last term, but his game time was heavily reduced after Vitor Pereira replaced Gary O\u2019Neil in the dugout.<\/p>\n

The Wrexham<\/a> and Birmingham target didn\u2019t make a single appearance in Wolves\u2019 last nine league fixtures of 24\/25.<\/p>\n

And manager Pereira has previously shared the main weakness of Doyle, as per the Express and Star<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cTechnically speaking, he\u2019s a very good player, but in my opinion he\u2019s missing the physicality to face this league.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo run 50 metres, to come back 50 metres and then go 50 metres again.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are not a team to have 80 per cent of possession, so he has problems. If we are a team that has the ball every time, doesn\u2019t allow counter-attacks and keeps the ball to dominate the opponent, this is the team for him.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut we need to understand that we face top teams, top players. We need to run a lot and he\u2019s missing this physicality, especially when we play with two midfielders.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith three midfielders, I believe he is a 10 with high quality. The last pass, shots, crosses \u2013 he has those skills.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wrexham midfield targets<\/p>\n

Doyle is not the only midfielder eyed for a Racecourse switch this summer, though.<\/p>\n

Wrexham are interested in Lewis Travis<\/a> of Blackburn Rovers, with a \u00a32m transfer fee mooted for that deal.<\/p>\n

As we reported some time ago, the Red Dragons want Charlie Savage and Tom Lawrence<\/a> as well.<\/p>\n

The latter is available on a free transfer after leaving Rangers this month, while Savage wants a Championship move<\/a> after excelling in League One with Reading.<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Wrexham and Birmingham City are both interested in signing one Premier League player this summer.
