Celina Jaitly Opens Up About ‘Rara Genetic Gift’, Choleostasis: It Nearly Broke Me<\/p>\n
Bollywood actress Celina Jaitly<\/a> uses her Instagram as a platform to raise awareness about maternal health. In a recent post, the Golmaal Returns<\/a> actress spoke about a rare genetic condition, revealing that she developed cholestasis<\/a> during her twin pregnancy<\/a>. She candidly shared the challenges she faced and the treatment she underwent for the illness.<\/p>\n Celina Jaitly Opens Up About Cholestasis<\/strong><\/p>\n She wrote, “I was born with a rare genetic gift, a tendency to hyperovulate. I had two spontaneous twin pregnancies, a trait passed down through generations of women in my family. I later learned my mother too had carried twins after my brother & me, babies she tragically lost after a fall in Ranikhet. Even my great-great-grandmother died from complications during a twin pregnancy.”<\/p>\n Celina added, “Both my pregnancies were overwhelming. I had gestational diabetes, severe SPD, and in both, I developed #cholestasis of Pregnancy, a rare liver condition more common in twin pregnancies. It nearly broke me.”<\/p>\n “It starts with itching palms, soles, sleepless nights and a deep fear for your baby\u2019s safety. Cholestasis isn\u2019t ‘just a pregnancy itch.’ It\u2019s a warning from your liver that something\u2019s wrong,” she wrote further.<\/p>\n For those unversed, cholestasis is a medical condition where the flow of bile from the liver is reduced or blocked. When the flow is interrupted, it can lead to a buildup of bile in the liver and bloodstream.<\/p>\n In her note, Celina urged expectant mothers to speak up about their health, especially if they experience constant itching at night, advising them to request a bile acid test as early detection could be life-saving. She emphasised that while pregnancy is sacred, it is also a vulnerable time, which is why she feels the need to continue raising awareness about maternal health.
