{"id":205104,"date":"2025-06-22T12:32:10","date_gmt":"2025-06-22T12:32:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/205104\/"},"modified":"2025-06-22T12:32:10","modified_gmt":"2025-06-22T12:32:10","slug":"world-reacts-to-us-attacks-on-iran-israel-iran-conflict-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/205104\/","title":{"rendered":"World reacts to US attacks on Iran | Israel-Iran conflict News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The United States has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/liveblog\/2025\/6\/22\/live-us-joins-israels-attacks-on-iran-bombs-three-nuclear-sites\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bombed three nuclear sites<\/a> in Iran, further escalating the war between Israel and Iran.<\/p>\n<p>President Donald Trump late on Saturday said the US attacks \u201cobliterated\u201d the Iranian facilities in Fordow, Isfahan and Natanz as he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/6\/22\/us-joins-israel-in-attacks-against-iran-strikes-key-nuclear-sites\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">threatened more strikes<\/a> to eliminate the country\u2019s nuclear enrichment capacity if Tehran \u201cdoes not make peace\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Iran acknowledged the attacks, saying its personnel working at the nuclear sites were evacuated before the attacks.<\/p>\n<p>The US strikes came more than a week after Israel launched a military campaign against Iran, which retaliated with missile attacks, resulting in hundreds of casualties on both sides.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some key reactions from around the world following the US strikes on Iran\u2019s nuclear sites:<\/p>\n<p>Iran<\/p>\n<p>In his first public remarks after the strikes, Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs Abbas Araghchi accused the US of breaching international law.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe United States, a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, has committed a grave violation of the UN Charter, international law and the NPT [Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty] by attacking Iran\u2019s peaceful nuclear installations,\u201d Araghchi said in a social media post.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe events this morning [Sunday] are outrageous and will have everlasting consequences. Each and every member of the UN must be alarmed over this extremely dangerous, lawless and criminal behavior.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added that Iran \u201creserves all options to defend its sovereignty, interest, and people\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Israel<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCongratulations, President Trump. Your bold decision to target Iran\u2019s nuclear facilities with the awesome and righteous might of the United States will change history,\u201d Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a televised statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHistory will record that President Trump acted to deny the world\u2019s most dangerous regime the world\u2019s most dangerous weapons.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>United Nations<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am gravely alarmed by the use of force by the United States against Iran today,\u201d Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a dangerous escalation in a region already on the edge \u2013 and a direct threat to international peace and security\u201d, he said, adding that there is a \u201cgrowing risk\u201d that this conflict could \u201crapidly get out of control \u2013 with catastrophic consequences for civilians, the region, and the world\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Guterres called on member states to \u201cde-escalate\u201d and \u201cuphold their obligations under the UN Charter and other rules of international law\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt this perilous hour, it is critical to avoid a spiral of chaos. There is no military solution. The only path forward is diplomacy. The only hope is peace.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-arc-image-770 wp-image-3790868\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/INTERACTIVE-US-ATTACKS-IRAN-NUCLEAR-FACILITIES-22-JUNE-2025-1750558802.png\" alt=\"A graphic shows the sites struck by US attacks in Iran\" fetchpriority=\"low\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Hamas<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, the Palestinian armed group said it condemned \u201cin the strongest terms the brazen aggression of the United States against the territory and sovereignty of Iran\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">\u201cThe US aggression against Iran is a dangerous escalation, blind obedience to the occupiers\u2019 agenda, and a clear violation of international law,\u201d Hamas said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">\u201cWe declare our solidarity with Iran, its leadership, and its people, and we have full confidence in Iran\u2019s ability to defend its sovereignty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Saudi Arabia<\/p>\n<p>Saudi Arabia expressed its \u201cgreat concern\u201d following the US attacks, according to a statement by the foreign ministry on X.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is following with great concern the developments in the sisterly Islamic Republic of Iran, represented by the targeting of Iranian nuclear facilities by the United States of America,\u201d the Saudi foreign ministry posted on X.<\/p>\n<p>The kingdom \u201cexpresses the need to exert all efforts to exercise restraint, de-escalate, and avoid escalation\u201d, calling on the international community to boost efforts in such \u201chighly sensitive circumstances\u201d to reach a political solution to end the crisis.<\/p>\n<p>Qatar<\/p>\n<p>Qatar says it fears serious repercussions after the US air strikes on nuclear facilities in Iran.<\/p>\n<p>The foreign ministry \u201cwarns that the current dangerous escalation in the region may lead to catastrophic consequences at both the regional and international levels,\u201d a statement said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt calls on all parties to exercise wisdom, restraint, and to avoid further escalation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Oman<\/p>\n<p>Oman, which was mediating nuclear talks between the US and Iran, has strongly condemned the US strikes.<\/p>\n<p>The Gulf state \u201cexpresses deep concern, denunciation and condemnation of the escalation resulting from the direct air strikes launched by the United States on sites in the Islamic Republic of Iran,\u201d the official Oman News Agency said.<\/p>\n<p>Iraq<\/p>\n<p>Iraq has warned the US attacks on its neighbour Iran\u2019s nuclear facilities threaten peace and stability in the Middle East.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis military escalation constitutes a grave threat to peace and security in the Middle East and poses serious risks to regional stability,\u201d government spokesperson Basim Alawadi said.<\/p>\n<p>Russia<\/p>\n<p>Russia\u2019s foreign ministry said it strongly condemns the US attacks on Iran.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe irresponsible decision to subject the territory of a sovereign state to missile and bomb attacks, whatever the arguments it may be presented with, flagrantly violates international law, the Charter of the United Nations and the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council,\u201d the ministry said in its statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe call for an end to aggression and for increased efforts to create conditions for returning the situation to a political and diplomatic track.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>United Kingdom<\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister Keir Starmer urged Iran to return to the negotiating table and said that stability in the region remained a priority, according to a statement from Downing Street.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIran\u2019s nuclear programme is a grave threat to international security. Iran can never be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon and the US has taken action to alleviate that threat,\u201d Starmer said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>European Union<\/p>\n<p>The EU\u2019s foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has called for de-escalation and a return to negotiations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI urge all sides to step back, return to the negotiating table and prevent further escalation,\u201d Kallas wrote on X, adding Iran must not be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon and that EU foreign ministers will discuss the situation on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>France<\/p>\n<p>France\u2019s Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot has expressed concern and urged \u201cthe parties to exercise restraint to avoid any escalation likely to lead to an extension of the conflict\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement on X, he added that France was \u201cconvinced that a lasting solution to this issue requires a negotiated solution within the framework of the Non-Proliferation Treaty\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Germany<\/p>\n<p>Chancellor Frederick Merz has called on Iran to immediately re-enter nuclear talks with the US so there can be a diplomatic solution, according to government spokesperson.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Chancellor and security cabinet ministers will coordinate closely with their European Union and US partners throughout the day,\u201d spokesman Stefan Kornelius said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Italy<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow we hope that, after this attack, which caused massive damage to nuclear weapons production and posed a threat to the entire region, a de-escalation can begin and Iran can sit down at the negotiating table,\u201d Italy\u2019s Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani told state broadcaster RAI.<\/p>\n<p>Switzerland<\/p>\n<p>Switzerland has urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint and immediately return to diplomacy, after the United States joined Israel\u2019s war with Tehran by striking Iranian nuclear sites.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSwitzerland emphasises the importance of full respect for international law, including the UN Charter and international humanitarian law,\u201d the foreign ministry said on its website.<\/p>\n<p>US Democrats<\/p>\n<p>The top Democrat in the House of Representatives accused Trump of pushing the country towards war.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Trump misled the country about his intentions, failed to seek congressional authorization for the use of military force and risks American entanglement in a potentially disastrous war in the Middle East,\u201d Congressman Hakeem Jeffries said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDonald Trump shoulders complete and total responsibility for any adverse consequences that flow from his unilateral military action.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>US groups CAIR and AIPAC<\/p>\n<p>The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a US Muslim rights group, said the US attack is an \u201cillegal and unjustified\u201d act of war that comes under pressure from the \u201cout-of-control\u201d Israeli government, and despite the longstanding conclusion of the US intelligence that Iran was not building a nuclear weapon.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, the American-Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), the powerful pro-Israel group in the US, praised the strikes ordered by Trump and said the US \u201cmust now work with our allies to protect our troops and regional interests against Iranian attacks\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>China<\/p>\n<p>A flash commentary from China\u2019s government-run media asked whether the US is \u201crepeating its Iraq mistake in Iran\u201d. The online piece by CGTN, the foreign-language arm of the state broadcaster, said the US strikes mark a dangerous turning point.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHistory has repeatedly shown that military interventions in the Middle East often produce unintended consequences, including prolonged conflicts and regional destabilization,\u201d it said, citing the American invasion of Iraq in 2003.<\/p>\n<p>It said a measured, diplomatic approach that prioritizes dialogue over military confrontation offers the best hope for stability in the Middle East.<\/p>\n<p>Japan<\/p>\n<p>Japanese prime minister Shigeru Ishiba told reporters that it is crucial that there is a quick de-escalation of the conflict.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are closely monitoring the situation there with grave concern,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>ICAN<\/p>\n<p>The International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons says the US military strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities were \u201csenseless and reckless\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy joining Israel\u2019s attack on Iran, the US is also breaking international law. Military action against Iran is not the way to resolve concerns over Tehran\u2019s nuclear programme,\u201d ICAN\u2019s executive director Melissa Parke said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGiven that US intelligence agencies assess Iran is not pursuing nuclear weapons, this is a senseless and reckless act that could undermine international efforts to prevent the further proliferation of nuclear weapons.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Geneva-based ICAN won the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize for its key role in drafting the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, which took effect in 2021. Diplomacy will deliver a more enduring resolution than further military action.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mexico<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe ministry urgently calls for diplomatic dialogue for peace between the parties involved in the Middle East conflict, Mexico\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on their X account.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn keeping with our constitutional principles of foreign policy and our country\u2019s pacifist conviction, we reiterate our call to de-escalate tensions in the region,\u201d the ministry said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe restoration of peaceful coexistence among the states of the region is the highest priority.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Venezuela<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVenezuela Condemns US Military Aggression Against Iran and Demands an Immediate Cessation of Hostilities,\u201d Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil said in a Telegram post.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela firmly and categorically condemns the bombing carried out by the United States military, at the request of the State of Israel, against nuclear facilities in the Islamic Republic of Iran, including the Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan complexes,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Cuba<\/p>\n<p>Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel strongly condemned the US bombing, saying it constituted a \u201cdangerous escalation\u201d and a serious violation of the UN Charter.<\/p>\n<p>He added that it \u201cplunges humanity into a crisis with irreversible consequences\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Chile<\/p>\n<p>Chilean President Gabriel Boric also called the US action illegal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChile condemns this US attack,\u201d he wrote on X. \u201cHaving power does not authorise you to use it in violation of the rules that we as humanity have given ourselves.
