Wrexham are exploring moves for a number of left-footed midfielders but may now face competition from Birmingham City.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Phil Parkinson<\/a> has a new striker in his ranks after Wrexham completed the signing of Ryan Hardie<\/a> last Monday.<\/p>\n

The attention will now turn to further additions, and Wrexham appear to be focusing on left-footed midfielders<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Wrexham are well-stocked with right-footed midfielders, leaving Parkinson to consider bringing in some balance to his engine room.<\/p>\n

Fulham captain Tom Cairney is considering an offer from Wrexham<\/a>,\u00a0and Parkinson has eyed Reading\u2019s Charlie Savage<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Barry Bannan is also on Wrexham\u2019s radar<\/a>, and it\u2019s no coincidence that so many left-footed midfielders have been linked this summer.<\/p>\n

Another name in the mix is Nottingham Forest\u2019s Lewis O\u2019Brien<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Wrexham are keen on O\u2019Brien<\/a>, who spent the second half of last season on loan with Championship side Swansea City.<\/p>\n

O\u2019Brien has been hailed as \u2018brilliant\u2019 by Lee Trundle<\/a> but has no future at Forest, and Birmingham City are now rivalling Wrexham\u2019s pursuit.<\/p>\n

The Sun\u2019s Alan Nixon<\/a> reports that Birmingham are now interested in signing O\u2019Brien in a permanent deal.<\/p>\n

Southampton are also keen to take O\u2019Brien on a full-time basis, following a string of loan moves in the Championship and MLS.<\/p>\n

Forest are yet to decide a transfer fee, but O\u2019Brien will be available in a permanent move, three years after joining from Nottingham Forest.<\/p>\n

Birmingham are also keen on Craig Dawson<\/a>, meaning Wrexham may face a couple of transfer battles with the Blues.<\/p>\n

Wrexham\u2019s midfield pursuit somewhat complicated<\/strong><\/p>\n

Wrexham are keen on so many left-footed midfielders, but actually signing them could be a little tricky.<\/p>\n

Cairney is weighing up staying at Fulham<\/a>, having been offered a new deal to extend his lengthy stay at Craven Cottage.<\/p>\n

Wrexham are not alone in the race for Savage, with the Reading midfielder also wanted by Blackburn Rovers, Portsmouth and \u2013 surprise, surprise \u2013 Birmingham City.<\/p>\n

Bannan also has other interest<\/a>, with Coventry City, Derby County and Stoke City all chasing the Sheffield Wednesday midfielder.<\/p>\n

O\u2019Brien now has plenty of interest, and Wrexham may need to play a waiting game as targets weigh up their futures.<\/p>\n
