Conor Benn is being roasted by fans today on social media for saying he wants \u201cThat WBC world title.<\/strong>\u201d Presumably, Benn (23-1, 14 KOs) is referring to the WBC welterweight title held by Mario Barrios. That\u2019s the most attainable one for Conor.<\/p>\n

Benn\u2019s best chance of getting a title shot for the WBC belt is if Turki Alalshikh throws his weight behind it by financing a fight. Without Benn beating one of the stop contenders for that belt, like Devin Haney, fans would have a field day mocking his undeserved title shot.<\/p>\n

Benn\u2019s WBC Title Call<\/strong><\/p>\n

However, he\u2019s done nothing to deserve to be fighting for the WBC welterweight title, given his weak resume, and with him coming off a loss. If Benn were given a title shot, it would be more due to the business angle. It cheapens the sport to have fighters given title shots just because of their popularity.<\/p>\n

Fans don\u2019t see Benn as having any chance at fighting for the WBC 147-lb title soon.\u00a0Barrios is scheduled to defend against 46-year-old Manny Pacquiao on July 19th.<\/p>\n

If Pacquiao gets his hands on that belt, he\u2019s likely going to want to fight Devin Haney or Ryan Garcia in a title defense. Those two are far more popular in the U.S than Conor Benn.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s only a household name in the UK. American fans wouldn\u2019t bother paying to see a circus-level fight between an old Pacquiao and Benn, whose best career win came against Chris Algieri.<\/p>\n

Benn\u2019s Weak Resume Scrutinized<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Matchroom-promoted Benn, 28, is coming off a 12-round unanimous decision to Chris Eubank Jr. in a middleweight fight last April. Benn reportedly got a purse of $10 million [\u00a38 million], which is a massive amount of money for a fighter with so little experience.<\/p>\n

Business Over Sport: Benn?<\/strong><\/p>\n

It\u2019s obvious why Benn is targeting the WBC title. There\u2019s a lot more money for him to make, especially if Pacquiao captures the belt next month. Jaron \u2018Boots\u2019 Ennis vacated IBF and WBA welterweight titles are now up for grabs as well.<\/p>\n

The IBF ordered Paddy Donovan and Lewis Crocker to fight in a title eliminator. That fight is expected to be for the vacant IBF title. WBA \u2018regular\u2019 welterweight champion Rolando \u2018Rolly\u2019 Romero is believed to be elevated to full WBA championship status, and will be required to defend against the overdue mandatory challenger. Shakhram Giyasov.<\/p>\n

Again, Benn won\u2019t make anywhere near the same money fighting for the IBF or WBA belts. If Giyasov winds up with the WBA title, that\u2019s a fighter that Benn would have a difficult time trying to beat. He\u2019s far more skilled than Conor and would outbox him the way Eubank Jr. did.<\/p>\n
