Kory McCrimmon’s family march against knife crime through streets of glasgow<\/p>\n
The family of Kory McCrimmon said “enough is enough” as they vowed to tackle knife crime on Scotland’s streets.<\/a><\/p>\n Kory, 16, died after an attack involving a bladed weapon on May 31, 2024. He was found seriously injured in Greenfield Park in the east end of Glasgow<\/a>.<\/p>\n His parents Neil and Elizabeth and brother Jamie were joined by friends, family and members of the community <\/a>for the Parents Against Knives march through Glasgow on Sunday.<\/p>\n Campaigners, <\/a>including Kory’s aunt Jackie McTaggart wore t-shirts with a picture of the schoolboy and held banners as they made a six mile journey from Ibrox to Celtic Park.<\/p>\n The march comes in the wake of the deaths of teenagers Amen Teklay and Kayden Moy in separate incidents this year. The tragedies have taken place amid the Record’s Our Kids … Our Future campaign, which was launched two years ago in response to a youth violence epidemic.<\/a><\/p>\n Kory\u2019s mum Elizabeth McCrimmon told the Record: \u201cThere have been too many deaths in the west of Scotland. <\/a>\u201cThree young children have been lost in a year, enough is enough. The system is broken.<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cEvery time I see another family go through what we\u2019ve been through it\u2019s horrible. You wouldn\u2019t wish it on anyone. We\u2019re still going through the pain <\/a>of losing Kory.”<\/p>\n His brother Jamie, 23, branded knife crime an epidemic as he called for action.<\/a><\/p>\n He said: \u201cToo much, too many, no more.<\/p>\n \u201cKnife crime is an epidemic that doesn\u2019t seem to be stopping and nobody really seems to care.<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cI think here today with everybody showing it up. It sends a clear message that it needs to stop.<\/a><\/p>\n “Parents don’t have control of their children. Police don’t have control. Something needs to be done to stop this for good.<\/a><\/p>\n Kory’s aunt, Jackie said the family hope the march could send a clear message to Holyrood that Scotland wants change.<\/p>\n She called for a meeting with John Swinney and Angela Constance.<\/p>\n She said: “We want to spare families from going through what we are.<\/a><\/p>\n “There are many families here who have lost loved ones to violent crime.<\/p>\n “We don’t want to see any more children being lost.<\/a> The youth might think they are cool posing with knives, some might think they’ll never use them but they are and its scary.<\/p>\n “We want to sit down with John Swinney and the Justice Secretary. We want to get points across that anger us and worry us <\/a>more than anything.”<\/p>\n \u201cWe hope today draws attention<\/a> to this major issue. We hope it is seen far and wide that we\u2019ve had enough. We need to see change now.\u201d<\/p>\n Rangers legend and club ambassador Mark Hateley<\/a> came out to show support for the march. The 64-year-old former striker offered Kory’s parents words of encouragement outside Ibrox.<\/p>\n The family were also joined by former Celtic star Tosh McKinlay. He held a “Parents Against Knives” banner alongside Kory’s family outside Celtic park.<\/p>\n A 14-year-old was sentenced to five years detention over the death of Kory.<\/a><\/p>\n He admitted to stabbing young Kory in the heart over a row over \u00a350. The pair were associated with rival gangs with threats <\/a>earlier exchanged on<\/p>\n Since then, on March 5, 15-year-old Amen in the Maryhill area of Glasgow. Two boys aged 14 and 16 have appeared in court charged with murder.<\/a><\/p>\n Last month 16-year-old Kayden Moy was found seriously injured on Irvine beach in North Ayrshire on May 17.<\/p>\n A 14-year-old boy and two 17-year-old boys have appeared in court charged with murder following his death.<\/p>\n The Record’s Our kids… Our Future campaign was launched in February 2023 after we highlighted a worrying trend of violence amongst teens.<\/p>\n Our campaign has called on the Scottish Government to invest in youth clubs and other ways to help young people.<\/p>\n Earlier this month The Scottish Government confirmed it would be investing an additional \u00a382,000 in the Scottish Violence Reduction Unit (SVRU) this year.
