Johnny Depp opened up about raising children Lily-Rose and Jack in France with ex-partner Vanessa Paradis. He called it the only place that ever felt like home. <\/p>\n

In a recent interview, Johnny Depp reflected on raising his two children\u2014Lily-Rose and Jack Depp\u2014with his former partner, Vanessa Paradis, in the south of France. Speaking to The Sunday Times, the Pirates of the Caribbean <\/a>star described that period as the only time he truly felt at home.<\/p>\n

Depp said, \u201cOh man, my kids growing up in the south of France in their youth?\u201d He spoke warmly about fatherhood: \u201cI was Papa. I cannot tell you how much I loved being Papa.\u201d<\/p>\n

With a touch of humor, he added, \u201cThen, suddenly, Papa was out the window. I was Dad. But Papa was awesome, and I\u2019m getting old enough for Papa to possibly come back. Some motherf—–\u2019s going to have to call me Papa!\u201d<\/p>\n

The 62-year-old actor and French singer Vanessa Paradis were together for 14 years before parting ways in 2012. During their relationship, they raised their children privately on an estate near St. Tropez, which Depp bought in 2001. The family later relocated to Los Angeles.<\/p>\n

When asked where he now calls \u201chome,\u201d Depp said he rarely spends time in the U.S., splitting his time between the U.K. and the Bahamas. Still, he described their years in France as the only place he truly felt a sense of belonging.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cTruly, the first time I felt I had a home was the place in the south of France where Vanessa and I raised the kiddies. That\u2019s the only place that ever felt like home,\u201d Depp explained.<\/p>\n

Paradis previously shared why she chose France as their home base.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnly in the south of France can you live much more anonymously. And that’s bliss, especially when the children are still young,\u201d she told Weekend Knack in 2007.<\/p>\n
