{"id":205794,"date":"2025-06-22T18:59:09","date_gmt":"2025-06-22T18:59:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/205794\/"},"modified":"2025-06-22T18:59:09","modified_gmt":"2025-06-22T18:59:09","slug":"tony-blair-think-tank-advising-scottish-labour-on-health-policy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/205794\/","title":{"rendered":"Tony Blair think tank &#8216;advising&#8217; Scottish Labour on health policy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  The Sunday Times reports that the Tony Blair Institute (TBI) is working with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/news\/24666521.anas-sarwar-news-updates-scottish-labour-msp-leader\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Anas Sarwar<\/a>\u2019s party to develop new policies for the health service ahead of the Scottish Parliament election next year.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Former prime minister Blair has previously suggested the NHS should use private healthcare providers to cut waiting times.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He also joined ex-Tory leader William Hague in suggesting the NHS should sell anonymised medical records to boost public services and research in 2024.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/news\/25059069.news-interviews-updates-snp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SNP<\/a> said the move was \u201ctruly beyond belief\u201d.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <strong>READ MORE:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/news\/25257793.fergus-ewing-says-snp-will-throw-everything-msp-bid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fergus Ewing says SNP will &#8216;throw everything&#8217; at his MSP bid<\/a><\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The newspaper reports that the TBI is working for no fee and is believed to be developing a \u201cspecific piece of work\u201d for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/topics\/scottish-labour\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Scottish Labour<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  This is understood to be related to how to improve access to GPs and prevention of health issues, as well as proposals on how \u201cmore effective use of technology solutions\u201d could be used to drive down record waiting lists for operations.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The TBI has more than 800 staff and works in more than 40 countries, with a focus on harnessing artificial intelligence (AI) and new technologies to reform how governments run and deliver public services.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  However, the Times added that even senior figures close to Sarwar admitted they were not aware of Blair\u2019s involvement in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/topics\/holyrood\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Holyrood<\/a> campaign.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   style=\"width: 100%;\"\/> Jackie Baillie, Scottish Labour\u2019s health spokesperson, said: \u201cOur NHS is stretched to breaking point and technology is a way to ease that pressure \u2014 but the SNP is squandering the opportunity.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cFrom GP practices using fax machines to doctors relying on pagers, the SNP is running an analogue health service in a digital age. GPs have been sounding the alarm about how a woeful lack of basic IT is holding them back \u2014 it\u2019s time we have a government that will listen.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cA Scottish Labour government will put Scotland on the cutting edge of medical innovation and modernise our NHS so it is fit for the future.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  A Tony Blair Institute spokesman said: \u201cWe are always happy to talk to any and all political parties who are interested in our work, all of which is published and publicly available.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cThe conversations we have had with Scottish Labour are specifically around how our health policy proposals could apply to healthcare in Scotland.
