{"id":205910,"date":"2025-06-22T20:08:12","date_gmt":"2025-06-22T20:08:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/205910\/"},"modified":"2025-06-22T20:08:12","modified_gmt":"2025-06-22T20:08:12","slug":"uk-holidaymakers-in-spain-warned-as-amber-major-risk-alerts-remain-in-place","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/205910\/","title":{"rendered":"UK holidaymakers in Spain warned as amber \u2018major risk\u2019 alerts remain in place"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It comes as temperatures up to 40C have been forecast<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/0_Lanzarote-As-A-Travel-Destination.jpg\" alt=\"Beach in Spain\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>Weather warnings are in place across mainland Spain, the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands(Image: Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Amber &#8220;major risk&#8221; alerts are in place across parts of mainland Spain over the next few days for extreme temperatures, storms and rain, as well as several less severe yellow alerts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">In addition to the warnings in mainland Spain, there are severe weather alerts in the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands including Mallorca.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">UK tourists visiting Spain are being warned by the Spanish weather agency that temperatures are set to reach highs of 40C in parts of the country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), has issued amber and yellow heat alerts that are set to remain in place over the next three days affecting large parts of the country.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/0_AEMET-weather-warning.jpg\" alt=\"AEMET weather warning map\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Large parts of Spain are affected by AEMET weather warnings(Image: AEMET)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Amber heat alerts are in place in Andalusia, Aragon, Catalonia, Madrid, and the Balearic Islands as well as some other popular tourist hotspots.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">AEMET warned: &#8220;Maximum temperature: 40C. Minimum temperatures will be significantly high.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The extreme heat warnings ease off overnight, before coming back into effect at around midday on Monday, June 23, and a similar pattern takes place the following day on Tuesday, June 24.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">As well as the heat warnings, AEMET has issued yellow and amber storm warnings across the north-eastern part of Spain affecting areas including Rioja, Huesca, Barcelona and Girona.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The amber storm warning reads: &#8220;Possible hail greater than 2 cm and very strong gusts of wind,&#8221; and the yellow storm warning reads: &#8220;They may be accompanied by hail up to 2 cm and wind gusts exceeding 70 km\/h.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">And also in the north-eastern parts of Spain, the same area impacted by the storm warnings, there are also yellow rain warnings which warn that accumulated precipitation could reach 20mm in one hour.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/0_AEMET-weather-warning-2.jpg\" alt=\"AEMET weather warnings in Canary Islands\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>AEMET has issued weather warnings across the Canary Islands(Image: AEMET)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Over in the Canary Islands, AEMET has issued yellow wind and &#8220;coastal&#8221; warnings affecting El Hierro, La Gomera, Gran Canaria and Tenerife.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">AEMET warns: &#8220;Maximum gusts: 70 km\/h.
