You’ll get an alert just before the downpour begins, saving you from a surprise soaking.<\/p>\n

Head into the Notifications tab inside WeatherCredit: The Sun \/ Apple<\/p>\n

It’s a little-known iPhone<\/a> feature that you can turn on for free in a matter of seconds.<\/p>\n

And it’s a must-have all year round<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Once you switch it on, you’ll get short-notice alerts for rain, giving you those precious minutes to get indoors.<\/p>\n

It’s based on your exact location and detailed forecasting, so it’s impressively accurate.<\/p>\n

“You can receive notifications when precipitation or certain severe weather<\/a> events are forecasted in your current location,” Apple<\/a> explains.<\/p>\n

HOW TO PREPARE FOR WEATHER ALERTS<\/p>\n

First, you’ll need to turn on Location Services so that the Weather app knows where you are.<\/p>\n

Otherwise, it won’t be able to give precise rain predictions \u2013 so the notification feature won’t work.<\/p>\n

Go into Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services.<\/p>\n

Then tap on Weather and choose the Always option.<\/p>\n

Finally, turn on Precise Location, which lets the Weather app give you extremely accurate alerts.<\/p>\n

Next, go to the Weather app on your iPhone \u2013 the default one installed by Apple.<\/p>\n

Tap on the menu option to display the list, then choose the three-dot menu icon.<\/p>\n

Now select Notifications, and allow them if you’re prompted to give permission.<\/p>\n

Next look below Current Location, and enable notifications for both Severe Weather and Next-Hour Precipitation.<\/p>\n

You’ll know that they’re active because the toggles will turn green.<\/p>\n

Then tap Done and you’re all sorted.<\/p>\n

GET WEATHER ALERTS FOR MORE LOCATIONS<\/p>\n

You can also get weather alerts for locations that you’re not in.<\/p>\n

So this can warn you if your home is about to be struck by a storm while you’re away, for instance.<\/p>\n

Here’s the official advice from Apple…<\/p>\n

“Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services,” Apple explained.<\/p>\n

“To review or change access settings for an app or to see its explanation for requesting Location Services, tap the app.<\/p>\n

“To allow an app to use your specific location, leave Precise Location turned on.<\/p>\n

“To share only your approximate location\u2014which may be sufficient for an app that doesn\u2019t need your exact location\u2014turn Precise Location off.<\/p>\n

“Note: If you set the access for an app to Ask Next Time, you\u2019re asked to turn on Location Services again the next time an app tries to use it.”<\/p>\n

Go to the Weather app, then to your list, and then the menu, and choose Notifications.<\/p>\n

Then look under the Your Locations section, and turn on notifications for both Severe Weather and Next-Hour Precipitation \u2013 then tap Done.<\/p>\n

That way, you’ll get alerts for all of the locations that you’ve saved to your Weather app.<\/p>\n

You can always change this or remove locations at any time.<\/p>\n
