You can read more on that <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/news\/midlands-news\/rat-birmingham-council-meeting-breaking-31379762\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"here.Link opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/0_WhatsApp-Image-2025-04-08-at-142332jpeg.jpg\" alt=\"A man in a rat costume before a full council meeting at Birmingham City Council House.\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>A man in a rat costume before a full council meeting gets underway at Birmingham City Council House.(Image: Alexander Brock)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Last week, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/birmingham-city-council\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Council<\/a> leader John Cotton faced fury from the public gallery in a tense moment before the meeting was dramatically adjourned.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cWould you take an \u00a38,000 pay cut Cotton?\u201d a man furiously shouted as Coun Cotton attempted to answer a question about the strike from a resident.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">However, as we <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/news\/midlands-news\/birmingham-bin-strike-update-negotiations-31890666\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"reported on June 19, Link opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">reported on June 19, <\/a>we understand that negotiations will resume next week with potential developments announced.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">ACAS, the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service, are mediating talks between both sides.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It\u2019s been a turbulent period for the city, with tales of cat-sized rats and public outcry drawing negative attention from across the world.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/0_SWNS_THIRTEENWEEK_RUBBISH_010.jpg\" alt=\"Birmingham bins as the strike reaches a 13th week\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">As it stands, Unite&#8217;s dispute with the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/labour-party\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Labour<\/a>-run city council, over plans to scrap a Waste Recycling and Collection Officer, remains unresolved.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Striking workers have raised concerns about pay while the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/birmingham-city-council\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">council\u2019s<\/a> leadership has repeatedly insisted that a &#8220;fair and reasonable&#8221;
