{"id":207428,"date":"2025-06-23T10:36:10","date_gmt":"2025-06-23T10:36:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/207428\/"},"modified":"2025-06-23T10:36:10","modified_gmt":"2025-06-23T10:36:10","slug":"lando-norris-leads-tributes-as-popular-f1-presenter-retires-after-cancer-diagnosis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/207428\/","title":{"rendered":"Lando Norris leads tributes as popular F1 presenter retires after cancer diagnosis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>McLaren driver Lando Norris has led tributes to former ITV F1 presenter Steve Rider after the popular broadcaster retired on Sunday.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Rider fronted ITV\u2019s coverage of Formula 1 for three seasons between 2006 and 2008 before the broadcaster lost the F1 rights in the United Kingdom and Ireland to the BBC.<\/p>\n<p>Lando Norris leads tributes to Steve Rider after retirement<\/p>\n<p>The veteran broadcaster, who was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2023, has since fronted ITV\u2019s coverage of the British Touring Car Championship.<\/p>\n<p>Rider signed off at Sunday\u2019s BTCC round at Oulton Park with Norris, who competed in the BTCC support series Ginetta Junior Championship in 2014, among a number of high-profile names to pay tribute to the presenter in a video montage.<\/p>\n<p>Lando Norris vs Oscar Piastri: McLaren head-to-head scores for F1 2025<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\udc49\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetf1.com\/news\/f1-2025-qualifying-head-to-head-team-mates\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">F1 2025: Head-to-head qualifying statistics between team-mates<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\udc49\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetf1.com\/news\/f1-2025-race-head-to-head-team-mates\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">F1 2025: Head-to-head race statistics between team-mates<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In a video clip, Norris said: \u201cHi Steve, it\u2019s Lando here.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI heard the news about your retirement and you certainly deserve it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA guy who has been on the TV for many, many years, who I was watching as a kid and very proud to say I got to work alongside you from my early days, from karting up from Ginetta, touring car package all the way to now in Formula 1.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been a pleasure to work with someone so iconic, so legendary, and I wish you all the very, very best.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Norris\u2019s McLaren team-mate and F1 2025 championship leader Oscar Piastri, who encountered Rider during his 2017 season in British F4, said: \u201cHey Steve, I just want to wish you a very happy retirement and all the best.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been a while now since we\u2019ve done some interviews together back in F4 back when I was just a kid still, but some very cool memories.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEnjoy retirement, all the best and enjoy whatever life holds.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jenson Button, the 2009 World Champion turned Sky F1 pundit, added: \u201cSteve, you were there for my first race and you were there for my last.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMate, it\u2019s been an honour and I hope you have an amazing retirement. I think you\u2019re going to show up from time to time and I certainly hope that\u2019ll be in the case.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the meantime, happy retirement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nigel Mansell, the 1992 World Champion, said: \u201cMany congratulations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re such a consummate professional. Everything we\u2019ve ever done together in Formula 1 and the stuff you\u2019ve done in golf has been amazing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo please enjoy your retirement and tremendous best wishes from Roseanne and myself and our family.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hope you have a great time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>David Coulthard, the former Williams, McLaren and Red Bull driver, added: \u201cI wish you a wonderful retirement and hope to have the opportunity to have a beer with you in the future.
