The latest centre-back target that Newcastle United fans are interested in is Giorgio Scalvini.<\/strong><\/p>\n

For a long time it had looked like Marc Guehi was Newcastle\u2019s top target<\/a>, but now Liverpool have emerged as the front-runners to secure his signature. Guehi could even stay at Crystal Palace<\/a> and become a free agent next summer.<\/p>\n

Newcastle are looking at Guehi alternatives<\/a>, and one name that is suddenly doing the rounds is Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini.<\/p>\n

Geordie Boot Boys<\/strong> reported in 2024 that Newcastle were looking at Scalvini<\/a>, having scouted the youngster multiple times whilst also watching Ederson play for the Serie A club.<\/p>\n

Now the 21-year-old appears to be back on the Magpies\u2019 radar, with Italian journalist Matteo Moretto stating on YouTube that Newcastle United<\/a> are interested in Scalvini.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The Telegraph\u2019s Luke Edwards has provided an update on X (formerly known as Twitter), as Eddie Howe continues to search far and wide for Fabian Schar\u2019s long-term successor at St James\u2019 Park.<\/p>\n

According to Edwards, Scalvini is \u2018one to watch\u2019. However, a move to Tyneside certainly is not imminent.<\/p>\n

He wrote on X: \u201c#nufc do indeed like Giorgio Scalvini but no more to it than that at this stage. One to watch perhaps. Had injury problems. James Trafford could advance, still very keen on Pedro. Interest remains in Guehi. Going to type words \u201cnothing imminent\u201d in the hope I reverse jinx it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Giorgio Scalvini\u2019s recent injury record<\/p>\n

If Newcastle United do sign Scalvini from Atalanta, they are signing a very highly rated central defender. <\/p>\n

He would add even more height to Eddie Howe\u2019s side, with Scalvini standing at 6ft 4in tall. That is the same height as Sven Botman, who Newcastle would want Scalvini to play alongside for years to come.<\/p>\n

It would also mean that Sandro Tonali has a fellow Italian on Tyneside, with the midfielder thriving since swapping Serie A for the Premier League. His presence would certainly help Scalvini settle into life in the North East.<\/p>\n

However, signing Scalvini would also represent a risk for the Magpies. That is because the youngster is on the back of two very serious injuries that ruined his 2024\/25 season.<\/p>\n

Scalvini only made eight appearances in all competitions for Atalanta last season due to injury. He started the campaign out of action with a torn anterior cruciate ligament, then he ended it with a shoulder injury. In total, he missed 41 games through injury.<\/p>\n

That is something that Newcastle United will need to take into consideration if they opt to formalise their interest in Scalvini.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
