{"id":208249,"date":"2025-06-23T17:48:13","date_gmt":"2025-06-23T17:48:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/208249\/"},"modified":"2025-06-23T17:48:13","modified_gmt":"2025-06-23T17:48:13","slug":"chinas-shipments-of-hi-tech-goods-to-eu-surge-as-its-exports-to-us-plunge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/208249\/","title":{"rendered":"China\u2019s shipments of hi-tech goods to EU surge as its exports to US plunge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>China\u2019s shipments of hi-tech goods to the <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/topics\/european-union?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"noopener\">European Union<\/a> went into overdrive last month, coinciding with a big drop in exports of the same goods to the US, suggesting that the superpower <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/topics\/us-china-trade-war?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"noopener\">trade<\/a> and <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/topics\/us-china-tech-war?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"noopener\">tech<\/a> wars could be affecting trade with Europe.Calculations based on recently published Chinese trade data showed that China in May exported huge amounts of batteries, laptops, <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/topics\/smartphones?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"noopener\">smartphones<\/a> and solar panels to the 27-member bloc, sending import numbers for some countries to unprecedented levels.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">China\u2019s exports to Estonia soared 79.4 per cent in May compared to last year, and for Cyprus the number was 70.5 per cent, with 46.7 per cent in Bulgaria and 42 per cent in Hungary.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The boom continued in bigger EU markets as France\u2019s imports shot up 24.2 per cent, Germany\u2019s 21.72 per cent and Sweden\u2019s 20.4 per cent.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">With many EU markets enduring falling exports to China, the cumulative impact was a 22 per cent increase in the union\u2019s trade deficit with the world\u2019s second-largest economy in May.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Lithium-ion battery exports across the EU surged by 52 per cent from a year earlier.
