Journalist Fabrizio Romano has shared a new message about Newcastle United and Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini after it was confirmed that he is in Eddie Howe\u2019s thinking.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A new defender is on Eddie Howe\u2019s shopping list this summer after qualification to the Champions League, and the Magpies may have found their man in Italy.<\/p>\n

Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini made just six Serie A appearances last season, after suffering a nasty ACL injury on the final day of the 2023\/24 campaign. Now recovered, Scalvini is believed to be one to watch for Newcastle United<\/a> fans.<\/p>\n

It will not be the first time Newcastle have bought a player of high quality from Serie A either. Sandro Tonali signed from AC Milan in 2023 and was one of Howe\u2019s most important players in the 2024\/25 campaign, helping Newcastle win their first trophy since 1969.<\/p>\n

Newcastle fans are getting excited about the transfer window, and they may be sent into meltdown after Fabrizio Romano\u2019s latest message on Scalvini.<\/p>\n

Thankfully, it is great news from Romano as well. The Italian recently confirmed that Newcastle and Burnley are in talks for James Trafford<\/a>, now he has provided another positive update, this time about Scalvini.<\/p>\n

On his Romano\u2019s Instagram story<\/a>, Romano said: \u201cScalvini songo Newcastle\u201d, which translates to \u201cScalvini dream Newcastle.\u201d That three-word message appears to suggest that Newcastle have a new dream signing, and that it is indeed Scalvini.<\/p>\n

The deal makes sense for Newcastle. He is a player who may be available for a smaller price tag due to his recent injuries, and someone who still has a lot of time to develop into a much better star.<\/p>\n

A deal like this is similar to that of Tino Livramento\u2019s<\/a> in 2023. The right-back was just returning from a season-ending injury at Southampton, and that is when Newcastle pounced on the opportunity to sign him.<\/p>\n

Sporting director Paul Mitchell suggested Newcastle paid too much for Livramento<\/a>, but his \u00a332m transfer fee appears to have been one that is now worth every penny.<\/p>\n

One of the main reasons why Newcastle are looking for a new centre-back is due to the ages of their current options. Dan Burn<\/a> is 33, while Fabian Schar<\/a> is 34. The pair were arguably two of Newcastle\u2019s best players last season, but there will naturally be concerns over how long they can perform at a high level.<\/p>\n

If Newcastle are to sign Scalvini, they could line up with a very young back four. Despite their ages, many would believe that Lewis Hall<\/a> and Livramento have been playing for years due to their unbelievable talent and immense quality. <\/p>\n

Howe is known for giving young players a chance at Newcastle, so Scalvini will be one of many promising talents who will be part of his starting XI.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
