Threats from \u2018lunatics\u2019 and \u2018terrorists\u2019 will stop Harry and Meghan coming back to the UK, an expert says, but the Duke would have missed his dad on Father\u2019s Day<\/p>\n

The growing distance between Prince Harry and the royal family was highlighted once again at the King\u2019s recent birthday celebrations, where the Duke of Sussex<\/a> was notably absent. At Trooping the Colour \u2013 which marks the monarch\u2019s official birthday \u2013 King Charles<\/a> celebrated alongside his close family, including wife Queen Camilla<\/a>, the Prince and Princess of Wales<\/a> and their children, George, Charlotte and Louis. Sadly, Harry and his family were nowhere to be seen.<\/p>\n

Following his High Court defeat in May<\/a>, the Duke of Sussex, 40, revealed that he was hopeful of a reconciliation with his father, but said that wouldn\u2019t be possible until he could keep his wife and children \u201csafe\u201d while in the UK.<\/p>\n

Now, a royal expert says the chances of Archie, six, and Lilibet, four, becoming regular visitors to the UK and growing close to their cousins is looking increasingly unlikely because of Harry and his wife Meghan Markle<\/a> \u2019s very valid fears.<\/p>\n

\u201cMeghan understandably feels scared about coming to the UK with the children,\u201d says former royal editor Duncan Larcombe<\/a>. \u201cThe threats are real and genuine. The threat is from lunatics, radical protesters that might want to make a name for themselves by jumping in front of them. Then of course you have the worst type, the terrorist threat. And there\u2019s no doubt Harry \u2013 and his family, as a result \u2013 is a huge target.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Meghan, 43, appears to be feeling more comfortable sharing her children with the world<\/a> \u2013 with her viral Baby Momma dance video<\/a> and a Disneyland holiday album posted to her socials \u2013 the idea of her returning to the UK with them is another matter.<\/p>\n

A source has told the Mirror<\/a> that while the mum-of-two is feeling more empowered today, it doesn\u2019t alter her safety worries.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn some ways she\u2019s feeling stronger and she wants to share that,\u201d our insider said. \u201cBut she\u2019s still terrified of putting her kids at risk by coming back to the UK \u2013 any parent would panic if they were in Meghan\u2019s shoes.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo even though Harry is really feeling the absence of his dad, especially after Trooping the Colour and Father\u2019s Day, the security stuff will probably always be an issue.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe knows that things could\u2019ve been so different if things had gone another way, but it\u2019s been five years since they left the UK and the chances of them coming back, even for a visit, seem slim to none. It\u2019s heartbreaking.\u201d<\/p>\n

During his controversial interview with the BBC<\/a> in May, Harry revealed he \u201cwould love reconciliation\u201d with his family. And our expert believes it\u2019s highly likely the Prince now wishes recent events had taken a different course.<\/p>\n

\u201cHarry is a sensitive soul and always wore his heart on his sleeve, so whether he\u2019d admit it publicly or not, I\u2019m sure he\u2019s full of regrets and wishes he\u2019d done things differently,\u201d says Duncan. With Trooping the Colour and Father\u2019s Day falling on the same weekend, it was bound to make him look back at the happy relationships he once had with his brother and dad, and I\u2019m sure he\u2019d love to be able to rebuild those.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last month, Harry lost his bid to overturn the decision to deny him and his family state-funded, high level security provided for senior royals while in the UK.<\/p>\n

As a result, he said he \u201ccouldn\u2019t see a world\u201d in which he would be able to bring Meghan and the children back to his homeland.<\/p>\n

Duncan says the death of Harry\u2019s mother, Princess Diana<\/a>, likely weighs heavily on the couple when it comes to their protection, as the absence of official Metropolitan Police protection was a \u201ccontributing factor\u201d in the accident that took her life.<\/p>\n

But he stresses that whether the couple are \u201cliked\u201d or not is irrelevant to their safety.<\/p>\n

The key distinction, he says, is the difference between official royal security and private protection, which could mean the difference between life and death.<\/p>\n

Official royal security gives royals round-the-clock, armed protection from top Met Police officers and allows MI5 to \u201csurround them in a ring\u201d of top-level intelligence.<\/p>\n

Given Meghan\u2019s understandable need to protect her children, Duncan suspects it would be very difficult for the family to feel safe without those measures in place.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt big royal events, the security you actually see is the tip of the iceberg. There are a lot of undercover officers and agents working, too,\u201d he says. \u201cWithout the official support and security, Harry and Meghan are left with two or three bodyguards who are pretty blind to what the potential threats are.\u201d<\/p>\n
