<\/p>\nRocker Rod Stewart became very worried about wife Penny Lancaster when she endured some terrifying moments after embarking on a new challenge, the former model has explained.<\/p>\n
Lancaster, 54, began volunteering as a special constable during the pandemic, working overnights. Four years on, she continues to devote her spare time to the important role.<\/p>\n
However, speaking recently about her husband’s reaction to the decision, Lancaster admitted the 80-year-old was “s***ing himself” with worry.<\/p>\n
“I’m a special constable,” Lancaster detailed. “I did a TV show called Famous and Fighting Crime and they had a bunch of household names involved in this TV show that was based in Cambridgeshire and I was located in Peterborough.<\/p>\n

The programme inspired Lancaster to pursue the work in her free time.<\/p>\n
“Police officers can only police with the consent of the public, but the public are the police and the police are the public,” she remarked.<\/p>\n
Speaking on the We’re Not Getting Any Younger podcast to hosts Lisa Snowdon and Andy Goldstein, Lancaster continued: “It’s very hard to remind the public and to gain their trust because there\u2019s so many negative things out there about policing and I always see myself as the positive face of policing.”<\/p>\n
Recalling how when she first started the police work, Maggie May hit-maker Stewart was concerned about her.<\/p>\n

“So, I was on the frontline with regular police officers and specials seeing all the work they do,” she reflected.<\/p>\n
“And even though there were some really scary moments I was just hooked on it. I got such a buzz and I felt like this was my calling.<\/p>\n
“Specials don\u2019t get paid, but you have to perform at least 200 hours a year. Roughly one duty a week. Mostly night duties. I have someone with me, we normally go in pairs.”<\/p>\n
Snowdon, 53, asked if Stewart had been “absolutely s***ing himself” as he waited for her to return from the shifts.<\/p>\n
“He was, he was,” Lancaster confirmed, adding: “I’ve been doing it for four years now so he\u2019s kind of got used to it and he’s met a lot of my colleagues and he respects the amount of training I\u2019ve done.”<\/p>\n
She went on to reveal she’d made two arrests since starting the volunteer work.<\/p>\n
After being asked by the hosts if she’d arrested anyone, she replied: “I have, two people, for drink driving and drug driving. <\/p>\n
“Every accident you have to test for drink and drugs. It is an adrenaline rush.”<\/p>\n

Elsewhere in the podcast,, Lancaster unveiled a strict rule Stewart enforces regarding his own project away from his career.<\/p>\n
Talking about her husband’s passion for his model railway, she commented: “Rod\u2019s obsessed with his trains because he\u2019s got the railway modelling layout.<\/p>\n
“It\u2019s about four times the size of this room. He\u2019s been working on it for about 35 years. I can\u2019t remember the scale, but it\u2019s very tiny and he has literally built every single building.<\/p>\n
