{"id":21029,"date":"2025-04-15T04:24:08","date_gmt":"2025-04-15T04:24:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/21029\/"},"modified":"2025-04-15T04:24:08","modified_gmt":"2025-04-15T04:24:08","slug":"is-china-trying-to-sabotage-britains-steel-industry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/21029\/","title":{"rendered":"Is China trying to sabotage Britain&#8217;s steel industry?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The UK Government has taken over British Steel from Chinese firm Jingye using emergency powers over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>The dramatic intervention came after negotiations between the Government and the company broke down.<\/p>\n<p>Officials and staff have been working urgently to maintain operations at the two blast furnaces at the Scunthorpe site.<\/p>\n<p>The situation has created tension between the UK and China, with concerns about the continued operation of the furnaces.<\/p>\n<p>Unions have claimed that Jingye was failing to order the raw materials needed to keep the furnaces operational.<\/p>\n<p>Business and Trade Secretary Jonathan Reynolds accused the company of selling off raw materials, which raised concerns about possible sabotage.<\/p>\n<p>This prompted an urgent effort by the government and British Steel staff to secure the necessary supplies for the Scunthorpe site. China&#8217;s foreign ministry has responded by urging the UK not to &#8220;politicise&#8221; the British Steel situation.<\/p>\n<p>Spokesperson Lin Jian called for the UK government to &#8220;treat Chinese businesses that have invested and operate in the UK fairly and justly, protect their legitimate and lawful rights and interests&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>With this in mind, is China trying to sabotage Britain&#8217;s steel industry?
