{"id":210507,"date":"2025-06-24T13:46:09","date_gmt":"2025-06-24T13:46:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/210507\/"},"modified":"2025-06-24T13:46:09","modified_gmt":"2025-06-24T13:46:09","slug":"springboks-rassie-reveals-daan-humans-role-in-newbie-shedding-18kgs-planet-rugby","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/210507\/","title":{"rendered":"Springboks: Rassie reveals Daan Human&#8217;s role in newbie shedding 18kgs : Planet Rugby"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Head coach Rassie Erasmus has detailed how Lions tighthead prop Asenathi Ntlabakanye shed his excess weight before earning a Springboks call-up.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetrugby.com\/tag\/Asenathi-Ntlabakanye\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ntlabakanye<\/a> has been named in the first Springboks matchday 23 of the year, starting at tighthead prop in the uncapped match against the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetrugby.com\/category\/barbarians\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Barbarians<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Lions forward heads into the game tipping the scales at 140 kilograms and while that is still a staggering number, it was significantly higher not too long ago as he weighed in at 158kgs.<\/p>\n<p>Daan Human\u2019s role in\u00a0<b>Ntlabakanye\u2019s weight loss<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The 26-year-old has been on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetrugby.com\/team\/south-africa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Boks<\/a>\u2018 radar for about two years, according to Erasmus, who revealed that he has been driving out from Johannesburg to scrum guru Daan Human\u2019s farm in Bloemfontein \u2013 easily a four drive \u2013 to better his game and weight.<\/p>\n<p>Erasmus is eager to see how the slimmed-down tighthead adjusts to international rugby and pointed to misconceptions about wingers like Cheslin Kolbe and Kurt-Lee Arendse and their ability to play at the highest level.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere were comments in the past where players are said to be too light like Cheslin Kolbe,\u201d Erasmus told reporters after naming his squad.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut what area of the game does Cheslin or Kurt-Lee Arendse not man up? In Asenathi\u00a0we have somebody who we see has an unbelievable touch and feel for the game, just like Neethling Fouche and Ox Nche \u2013 we not talking about scrummaging necessarily.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo when we started looking at Ntlabakanye two years ago, we started tracking his battle rates and it\u2019s up there with the other guys.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With the blessing of the Lions and their coaching team, Erasmus and Human deployed a plan to get Ntlabakanye up to scratch quicker ahead of his first outing in Green and Gold.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe so spoke to Cash [Ivan van Rooyen, Lions coach] and said \u2018We wanted to get this right\u2019 and he went a few times to Daan\u2019s farm and stayed there for a week and Daan worked with him \u2013 with the blessing of coach and CEO \u2013 after the Lions fell out of the URC,\u201d the head coach revealed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhenever there was a break, he drove to Bloemfontein, went to the farm and he dropped 15 to 18 kilograms.
