\n \u201cSam is the centre-forward of a profile that we didn’t have in the squad.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cHe’s a physical type of player, he is really good as a link player,\u00a0someone who can be used as a target man,\u00a0but his standout quality for me when I watched all of his stuff was,\u00a0when the ball goes wide, he’s always in the middle of the goal.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cI was forever saying that to the centre-forwards last year,\u00a0and we feel as though having him in the squad gives us an option to cross the ball\u00a0and have somebody get on the end of them.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cHe had a brilliant year for Dundee United, he played consistent minutes,\u00a0which helps, and got himself a load of goals, so we wanted to bring that type of form to us.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

\n \u201cHe\u2019s a really talented footballer, someone who has had a really good upbringing at Chelsea, came through the academy there and got himself a really good move to Hull City in the Championship where he played a good number of games.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cHe went out on loan a couple of times but he is a young player who we think has got plenty of room for development.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cHe is an all-round type, a box-to-box midfielder, who can do a little bit of everything.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cAgain, he is a player who we\u2019re excited about and one we are going to try and improve where we can.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

\n \u201cHe\u2019s physical, he is fast and he\u2019s aggressive. He is left-footed, so that gives us a good bit of balance and we think he can play either as a centre-back or as a left-back for us.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cHe has had a different sort of career path to Xavier but we still think he has got room to develop too.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cHe is young, only 24, but young from a footballing perspective, and someone we think we can work with.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

\n \u201cHe\u2019s an exciting young prospect. He came in on trail last season and played for the B Team with Andrew Tutte and Andy Taylor. I watched him play against Blackburn and he caught the eye. He was impressive.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cHe is a good size, he is left-footed, he moves well,\u00a0scored a load of goals, Liam Watson, one of our scouts, watched him a lot and was keen to bring him in.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cFor somebody so young it was a really minimal fee that we paid, and we felt it was a gamble worth taking.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cWe don’t know what his career path is going to be like yet. He is going to train with the first team for the first few weeks,\u00a0and then we make our decision from there on whether he goes with the B team, he stays with us,\u00a0or he goes out on loan.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cBut the opportunity is there for him, as it is for other young players.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

\n \u201cWe\u2019re getting a really talented player. He went out on loan last year with Doncaster Rovers and he was exceptional.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cWe had a lot of conversations early in the window, as soon as the season had finished, in fact, about the type of goalkeeper we wanted with Owain (Fon Williams) and with Fergal (Harkin).\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cWe had a list of goalkeepers that we wanted to go through\u00a0and try and make sure we get the right choice for that role,\u00a0so we watched a lot of stuff on a number of goalkeepers,\u00a0and Teddy was the outstanding candidate.\n<\/p>\n
